A high school nurse spent the first day of school away from campus after Henrico Police arrested her on drug charges outside the school. Leslie Minter Johnson, 47, of Henrico County, was arrested on the morning of August 17 in the Godwin High School parking lot, according to Henrico Police. For the second straight year, a team from Hawaii claimed the 13-and-under Babe Ruth Baseball World Series at Glen Allen Stadium at RF&P Park. An all-star team from Oahu defeated a team from Tallahassee-Leon, Florida in the championship game, 7-6, to win the title Aug. 19. The Oahu team finished the tournament with just one loss in its seven tournament games (a 4-2 decision to Eagle Pass, Texas in pool play). Last year, a team based in Honolulu won the championship. Safety enhancements have been added at several Henrico County public schools to help improve access for students and visitors. Altogether, county officials recently completed about a dozen projects countywide to enhance safety for pedestrians and bicyclists, with new crosswalks, bike lanes and other features. At Tuckahoe Elementary School, crews recently built additional sections of sidewalk with ADA ramps along Forest Avenue as well as a crosswalk with a 6-foot-by-12-foot pedestrian refuge island at Forest and Silverspring Drive. A 44-year-old Henrico man was shot and killed near the Henrico-Richmond line near Williamsburg Road Aug. 20. Earl Young, Jr., was shot in the 4800 block of Hillbrook Avenue (near its intersection with Hillbrook Avenue in Eastern Henrico) just after 9 p.m., according to Henrico Police. A Glen Allen man pleaded guilty Thursday to a wire fraud charge associated with his operation of an online retail business. From August 2020 to July 2021, the defendant, 26-year-old Justin Lee Godsey, ran "Sneak Foot" an online sneaker retailer. When customers purchased sneakers from the website, the sales were managed by two credit card processing companies that were in agreement with Sneak Foot. The processing companies were obligated to refund any purchases sent to Sneak Foot if Godsey did not deliver the shoes ordered.
