Henrico Police have identified the victim of a murder that occurred in Northern Henrico May 23. Lavelle Lee Roe, 36, of Henrico, was pronounced dead at the scene in the 5900 block of Queens Thorpe Court in the Treehouse Apartments near Wilkinson Road at about 2 p.m. Police found him in a car with obvious signs of trauma. The remains of a raccoon that entered a yard in Short Pump May 1 tested positive for rabies, Henrico Police officials announced Tuesday. It was the fourth confirmed case of rabies in the county this year. The raccoon entered a yard in the 3100 block of Cool Stream Drive, near Pump Road and John Rolfe Parkway, after a resident reported that the raccoon had a physical altercation with the resident's dog. Gretchen I. Brown has been appointed director of the Henrico County Department of Social Services, effective May 20. Brown joined the department in 2000 and served most recently as its assistant director for service programs.
