Rita Jean Berry, 83, of Glen Allen, passed away after an extended illness on Friday, April 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis L. Berry; mother, Mildred Phipps; brother, Rod Harte; and sisters, Margaret Helms and Shirley Snow. She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Garris and Lisa Baber (Wayne); grandsons, Ryan Atkins (Margaret) and Brandon Atkins (Jeanie); great-grandchildren, Harrison, Bennett and Loretta Atkins. Patricia Phelps Coley, 80, of Henrico, passed away on April 14, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Sally Phelps. Patricia worked as a legal secretary for Williams Mullens. The Virginia Department of Elections says it has “streamlined” the process of removing dead voters from the rolls by allowing local registrars to use obituaries to confirm deaths and creating a form meant to make it easier for family members to notify election offices after a death. In a news release Monday, the agency said it had also reviewed the way it receives death records from the Virginia Department of Health. Henrico County is the latest area to report having victims of an international "theft ring" that's been active recently around metro-Richmond. Goochland, Chesterfield, and now, Henrico have reported a series of burglaries that may be tied to what investigators are calling a South American Theft Group (SATG). To conclude the trial of a murder that stirred local and national communities, a Henrico Circuit Court judge sentenced a 16-year-old boy on Friday to 60 years in prison for the 2021 fatal shooting of 13-year-old Lucia Bremer. Dylan Williams was 14 years old when he shot and killed Bremer and was tried as an adult in Henrico Circuit Court. Williams pleaded guilty in January to charges of the first-degree murder of Lucia Bremer, second-degree attempted murder of Bremer’s friend and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony. The events will take place April 25 and 26 at the Advanced Career Education Center at Hermitage High School, and April 27 and 28 at the Advanced Career Education Center at Virginia Randolph.
