For the second time in eight days, Henrico has reported 13 new COVID-19-related hospitalizations on a single day. The latest occurrence came Thursday, according to the Virginia Department of Health, a week to the day after it last occurred. The county also reported two new virus-related deaths Thursday, as well as 76 new cases (up from 48 March 17). Henrico is now averaging 59 new daily cases during the past week. Henrico County witnessed a slight drop in the number of new first-time unemployment claims during the most recent reporting week, according to data released March 18 by the Virginia Employment Commission. A total of 265 people filed initial claims during the week of March 7-13, down from 281 the previous week. That ranked Henrico (the seventh-largest locality in Virginia) 13th in the state in most filings during the week. The Richmond and Henrico Health Districts will establish a community vaccination hub in the Varina District beginning at the end of March, RHHD Nurse Manager Amy Popovich said during a press briefing Thursday. Construction on the roundabout at Greenwood and Woodman roads is expected to slow traffic through the area March 22-24.
