First-time unemployment claims in Henrico fell to their second-lowest weekly total since the pandemic began nearly one year ago, during the most recently reporting week. Only 184 county residents filed initial claims during the week of Feb. 21-27, according to the Virginia Employment Commission. That was down from the 212 who did so the previous week and lower than every other week during the past 50 except for the one leading up to Thanksgiving, when just 160 people filed. The University of Richmond has named Kevin F. Hallock its next president. University Rector Paul Queally and Vice Rector Susan G. Quisenberry, the co-chairs of a search committee, made the announcement by email Thursday. A child in Central Virginia has died from complications of a chronic health condition and COVID-19, Virginia Department of Health officials announced Thursday. The agency provided no further details about the child. A 23-year-old Henrico man received a five-year jail sentence in Henrico Circuit Court last week after pleading guilty to five counts of using a communications system to solicit a minor and five counts of possession of child pornography.
