The fifth commandment, found in Exodus 20:12, says ‘Honor your father and mother, so that you may live long in the land...’ Why do you think God gave this commandment? Perhaps because he knows that parents are not perfect, but they have a place of honor in our lives. How can you honor your parents? This is a message for young and old!
Si Vamos a vivir para la gloria de Dios, debemos entender que este mundo no es nuestro hogar.
In this series focusing on building strong families, we’ll take a look at the fourth commandment, found in Exodus 20:8-11, which has to do with resting from labors. There was a time in the US that Sunday meant very few businesses were open and a day of rest from working. Things have changed now and very few businesses are closed on Sunday! We have become workaholics. What does God have to say to us? #worshipwithus
The third commandment, found in Exodus 20:7 has to do with the use of God’s name. We can be careless in using the name of God in our everyday language or when we get excited or upset, but that is not the time to use God’s name. How is God’s name used by your family?
What do you think God meant when he included the commandment to have no other Gods before him? After all, why would you need another God? Unfortunately, at the time, the Hebrews had handmade deities that they worshipped instead of God. So, therefore, in Exodus 20:4-5, we find "You shall not make any idols ... you must never bow to an image or worship it in any way." Like humans often do, some obeyed, and some didn’t, keeping their manmade idols. Do you idolize anything or anyone—putting it/them before God?
“What's the Solution?” Clarifying Your Worldview Part 5. No one can deny that we are bombarded with many problems during our short time on earth. In fact, much of our adulthood revolves around trying to resolve them. As we grow, we see evidence all around us of how the world deals with problems. What is your worldview and what should you do? What do you believe? In this part of the conversation about clarifying your worldview, Bruce will focus on how the world approaches problems and what the Bible tells us.
I. APPROACHES TO WORLD PROBLEMS:
II. HOW JESUS’ DEATH ON THE CROSS SOLVED OUR BIGGEST PROBLEMS
1. REPLACEMENT: HE TOOK MY PUNISHMENT
“God sent Christ Jesus to take the punishment for our sins and to end all God's anger against us.” Romans 3:25 (LB)
2. REDEMPTION: HE BOUGHT MY FREEDOM
“He gave His life to purchase freedom for everyone.” 1 Timothy 2:6a
3. RECONCILIATION: HE RESTORED MY RELATIONSHIP TO GOD
“We were God's enemies, but He made us His friends through the death of His Son.” Romans 5:10a
4. REBIRTH: HE GAVE ME A NEW IDENTITY
“God saved us because of His mercy... He gave us new birth and a fresh beginning.” Titus 3:5
5. REPUDIATION: HE DEFEATED DEATH
“The Son of God came for this purpose: to destroy the devil's work.” (Kill, Still, Destroy) 1 John 3:8
“How Did The World Get So Messed Up?” Clarifying Your World View Part 4. The answer to the question is simple, yet complicated. Disobedience brought chaos into a once orderly world and with that disobedience, came death and, as a result we live in a fallen world. In other words, it’s messed up! What’s the solution?
Where Did We Come From? Clarifying Your World View Part 3. Have you ever thought about where humans came from? There are several trains of thought and theories about where humans came from, but God’s word tells us that he created everything and that includes us. What is your worldview?
