Heroes and Villains podcast

This week's episode is a birthday present to my guest Dan. His favorite character in all of comics is none other than America's favorite son, Cap. I'll tell you up front that this is a long one, but it is absolutely full of goodness. The episode contains much more than the basics everyone already knows about Cpt. Steve Rodgers from movies and television and really dives into the details that make Cap such a land mark guy in not only Marvel, but all of comics. So go ahead and listen, it's guaranteed to intrigue international listeners as well as folks here in the states.

This week Jordan joins me to discuss Marvel's ever present man of action Nick Fury. He started his career as the leader of the Howling Commandos during World War II before moving on to the CIA, and eventually becoming the director of the mysterious multinational agency S.H.I.E.L.D. We talk about why he never ages, how he got that eye patch, and the circumstances that led to his strange, current position in the Marvel Universe. Listen to learn pretty much all there is to know about Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.

I have been asked to cover one of the members of the Canadian super team Alpha Flight, and what better way to do it than with an actual Canadian. My friend Chris, from the great northern nation, actually joins me to discuss the landmark character Northstar. As the first openly gay super hero in major comics, he did a lot to build on social awareness amongs comics and readers. Also as a former member of the Quebec separatist movement, Northstar helped give some awareness of the political climate in Canada at the time. Now it is time to expand your horizons by listening to my first honest to goodness international episode.

This week Rachel joins me to discuss a topic requested by someone who is possibly the youngest of the listeners. A 7 year old girl (via her mother of course) has requested that we discuss The Powerpuff girls, from their creation from sugar, spice and everything nice (plus a dash of chemical X) to their ascension as the lone defenders of Townsville. Tune in to hear all about these tiny ladies who pack a heckuva punch!

The man in the yellow suit has piqued the interest of viewers of CW's The Flash, so Joe and I decided to discuss the comic book inspiration for the character, Eobard Thawne - the Reverse Flash. I am sure everyone is excited by the series return from the holiday break, and many people may have questions about exactly who this guy is. I think this episode will get everyone caught up with the character that first appeared in 1966, and we even give our own theories about where the show is going with him.

Onslaught was the psionic entity created inadvertently when Professor X allowed his mind to make contact with Magneto's. The result was a devastating dark force that seemed to represent the inevitable destruction of all humans and mutants alike. Thankfully, due to the sacrifice of all the non-mutant heroes this force was stopped (and perhaps unfortunately lead to the Heroes Reborn story).

Responsible for the death of both his parents, Thomas Blake was destined for super villainy at an early age. After a personal descent into a pathetic version of the man he once was, he lived with a pride of lions to unlock the true abilities that he knew he still had in him. Then membership in the Secret Six truly elevated Blake to carve out his own anti-hero niche as the one and only Catman.
