Our featured guest for Episode 5 is Cristina Cutts Dougherty, (she/her), tubist, and, (in my opinion), professional badass. Originally from South Africa, Cristina has lived and traveled to various countries and all over the states, making music all the way. In this episode, Cristina and I discuss the gender inequity issues that exist in brass playing and in the symphony orchestral world, as well as the hurdles that female brass players have to conquer from Day 1.

In this episode, Avedis and I discuss the importance of having conversations about race, racial identity, musical outreach to underprivileged areas, and classical music keeping up with modern times to encourage diversity.

Episode 3 features guest Tierney McLean, (she/her), trumpeter, private teacher, and arts administrator. Tierney is from Rochester, NY. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, and her Master of Music from the Eastman School of Music. In this episode, Tierney and I discuss our lives as female trumpet players, the importance of how language is used when teaching students, and avoiding a "one size fits all" approach to teaching.

Episode 2 features guest Madeline Morizio, (she/her), current middle school band director in the Greece Central School District. Native to Albany, NY and a professional saxophonist, Madeline received her Master's of Music from Michigan State University. She received her Bachelor's in Music Education from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. In this episode, Madeline discusses her experiences growing up, at the collegiate level, and in her professional life teaching in a diverse school district, including the challenges that come with her experiences.
