Herve Cyubahiro (formerly Mashindora) shares about changing his name, navigating his identity as a Third Culture Kid and now as an adult, and switching between a culture of “timelessness and open door policies” and one that’s more scheduled and individualistic. Herve serves as the Lead Health Educator for Central District Health and liaison to refugee, immigrant, and migrant populations, where he works to include a greater diversity of voices in problem-solving.
Herve shares a valuable perspective for anyone who resettled in a new place and may be feeling a loss of identity and culture, and for those working to help refugees thrive in their new community.
