This week, we’re joined by Dr Jazz Tehara, a clinical psychologist and lecturer based in the UK, to talk about the proliferation of AI in the therapeutic process, and the ways in which it might be undermining established therapeutic practices, to the detriment of patients and clinicians.

We focus on two recent stories – one of a woman whose AI convinced her that her psychotherapist was in love with her, and another of a man whose AI convinced him he had invented a new kind of mathematics, and in doing so, alienated him from his family members. Both stories pose the same question: What happens when a patient trusts, and feels safer around an AI chatbot than the people in their community who want to help them?
