HEY SPIRITS

HEY SPIRITS! Annie, Jo & André are still hype about the Washington Spirit's opening day dub over OL Reign, then look ahead to this weekend's matchup with Racing Louisville.

We get into the surprise of the opening day lineup, the Spirit having to adjust, plus some special shoutouts to Dorian Bailey, Paige Metayer, Tara McKeown and of course, Trinity Rodman. Then we discuss Louisville being the three-headed dragon meme, Kentucky being the international hub of the NWSL, and whether the Spirit will be able to play the game they want to play versus Racing.

Each host gives their final score prediction plus one more prediction about the match!

The Washington Spirit opened up 2023 with a 1-0 dub over last year's NWSL Shield winners, OL Reign!

In this episode you'll hear from Annie Elliott who was there an hour and half before kickoff to get a feel for the vibe and talk us through all of the fun the Spirits had planned for opening day. Then we move on to discussing the game, where you'll hear from Mark Parsons, Trinity Rodman and Aubrey Kingsbury. Parsons discusses having to adjust and admitting that this wasn't the style they worked on all preseason but how important it was to adapt, Rodman discussing the team's mentality to hold onto the win plus her celebration gone wrong, and Kingsbury on keeping a clean sheet and making that fabulous save on Jordyn Huitema.

The Hey Spirits crew welcomed Tara McKeown on the podcast! The Washington Spirit forwar- WHOOPS, center back(!) talks to us about her conversion from the forward line to central defense.

She tells us about the conversation that led to the decision, how shocked she was, how she's adjusting to the new role, and the CBs she's looking up to. But in true Hey Spirits fashion, we also have some fun and ask Tara about the team doing escape rooms, her thoughts on candy corn, and have her rank our rebranding ideas!

It's another fresh new episode of Hey Spirits! Annie, Jo and André discuss the Spirit signing 15-year-old Chloe Ricketts, SIX players to new contracts, three new defensive conversions, and have a little fun dreaming of what each of us would like to see in the Spirit's full rebrand.

We dive into audio from the most recent press availability when we got to speak with head coach Mark Parsons and goalscorer Ashley Hatch. We hear Parsons' comments on the infrastructure required to accommodate signing young players, reasons behind the defensive conversions of Dorian Bailey, Maddie Elwell and Tara McKeown, plus we also hear from Hatch on all of the changes behind the scenes to support players. We also give out verdicts on the defensive conversions with a little game of thumbs up, thumbs down, or thumbs...neutral? Anyway, come listen!
