A professor challenged all of us to explore what we believe about reading. I also share two of the methods for reading with kids that the professor shared in writing. I reveal how my own application of these methods and my own questions reveal the real readers: What and when might you want to say something (reading)? Draw? What is it like reading with me? I often say things like: I love listening to you miscue your own way, reading; I like reading your own way in your writing too. For this podcast, know I would apply these questions to tutoring kids about their own reading, outside school. Though I would inspire kids by using Dr. Jerome Harste’s published methods, I also acknowledge published and websited work of Yetta Goodman, the “kid watcher”, herself. Unfortunately, I also remember her saying some six years ago that, even though she has taught about miscues as a window into kid’s reading, and our into own reading, for some sixty years, and even though she had shared with her husband , Ken, further miscue study validation in brain and linguistic study for a long time also, she is very tired of talking “miscues...” Why? Institutions she is trying to influence are not listening. I needed some inspiration. Instead of turning on my favorite music, I turned inward to my own music! I knew that I wanted to not just shovel snow! I wanted to whistle/hum/sing a path through the snow for my wife and I to walk and drive. It helped!

A new-found writer in me! Some passion. A lot of searching to integrate all this. This episode is a personal search for me. As far as the really comprehensive reading REsearch. Up to you if you too want to own it! I do this because I want to share my own curiosity. I do inform those interested in what to check out...I like to also think of myself as a citizen researcher who loves reading reading research! Read my new introduction to whole podcast too. Here, in podcast 3, I get more specific, quoting a little about reading, brain and language research. I am honest that I am learning that I need this podcast for much more than reading!

Somewhat stifling yet broad version of my reading intersects, i.e., I found this listen too halting at times; though, I now think the tougher listen for you would be worth it! I like the way I talk about the child’s experience of beginning to read. Having never had kids “from the get go”, I still have witnessed many children’s windows into “the intricate workings of the mind” of all our reading!
