In this episode we set out to talk through forgiveness. Which, according to psychologists, is “the act of releasing resentment, regardless of how much the other person deserves it.” Ouch.
We thought we were going to talk about just our mom-daughter relationship...turns out Ingrid had more baggage to unpack. Come for the mother-daughter convo, stay for the daughter-initiated debate on the way her parents communicate.😬 This is our relationship shifting (a little painfully) into adulthood right before your eyes.
Hospitality. We all aspire to it. But it's often inconvenient? I know that's not exactly a pc thing to say. But let's be honest, its hard to open my home and my life. Vicki made some big changes in her life to facilitate hospitality. And Ingrid is a huge beneficiary of that. - This podcast falls during the world-wide COVID-19 crisis. ironic right? Let's talk about hospitality at the exact moment we all have to self-isolate... But there are things to learn there too. Listen in!
MOM! She...!
Remember hearing the demanding yell for mom to referee between siblings? Remember gaming the parents to get your way? Remember your best kept secrets shared between siblings and kept from parents?
Siblings, here we go. How do they effect our relationship as mom and daughter? Discover with us. And while you are at it, drop us a line about your sibling rivalry and relationships.
How do you feel about moving? How about packing up and moving via TRAIN?
Moms how do you feel when your adult child does this, and all you can do is listen to the story?
One of the bigger stressors in life, where a mom would like to retain control for presumed peace-of-mind, though misguided, is when her child moves her life via public transportation.
Today you get to hear the play-by-play of Ingrid on the train from NYC to Washington DC during her move to Williamsburg, VA for her first long-term paid theatre gig as a vocalist at Busch Gardens Celtic Fyre show.
What do you do to scaffold your child to help them through the uncharted waters they travel?
Does it really help them? Or just give you comfort? Or both?
Brrringgg! Alright we know the phone is frustrating. Daughters feel like Mom is way too protective and annoyingly invasive. Moms feel like daughters are hiding things and being really rude at the flip of a switch. No? Just us?
Well, we've had a lot of questions about how phones work in our home and our relationships. We've come a long way since Ingrid's first flip razor in 2012 - both technologically and emotionally. Listen in on what we've learned and where we go from here.
Do you have stories about phones in your home? We'd LOVE to hear them! email us: [email protected]
...must be funny. In a rich man's world.
Money is always a little awkward to talk about. Especially with your parents. (or with your kid who is trying to not be a kid anymore)
We discuss what we know about money - which is not everything. not by a long shot. What have we learned? Where have we succeeded? Where have we failed? We're just trying to figure it out. One day at a time. Ya feel?
Do you lay in bed at night replaying what you WISH you would have said in that one conversation?
Same.
Is your daughter super nervous about her book report?
Been there.
How do we find courage and collect our thoughts when we feel it matters most?
We share our own experiences with public speaking, and a few tips and tricks.
We love each other very much. And that means we worry too. This week we work through some big fears about safety. Being a woman in America has specific challenges, which Vicki has faced and Ingrid is quickly discovering. Ready for a frank - hopefully helpful conversation? Listen in.
In this podcast we reference a This American Life article. We highly recommend taking a listen to it as well! https://www.thisamericanlife.org/640/five-women
Do you have a hard time talking to your daughter about things? Figuring out the right questions to ask? Do you conveniently sidestep Mom's question because you feel awkward? Let me tell ya, we've been there. In this episode we share where we've hit communication road blocks and where we are in that process now.
Oof. We've all been bullied haven't we? I mean pretty much. And what a tough tough thing to work through with your mom or with your daughter. Vicki and Ingrid share their own stories and all the things we've learned.
