Paris Shears is a mum of three, a survivor and a campaigner. After living through domestic abuse, and then through the criminal justice system first-hand, she launched the campaign for Paris's Law. It gathered more than 100,000 signatures and secured a debate in Parliament.
In part one, Paris takes me back to who she was before the relationship, and to how quickly it moved. What looked like generosity and protection became access. Access became entitlement. And entitlement became control. We talk about how an abuser builds control step by step, long before the first incident, and why it can take so long to name what is happening to you.
Part two is out next Sunday.
Content note: this episode includes discussion of domestic abuse, violence during pregnancy and sexual violence, including rape.
