In this episode, Bruce, Emma and Jan make a trip to Second Harvest of Silicon Valley. Alicia Ruiz, the Corporate Philanthropy Officer, gave us a tour of the facility and talked to us about how much energy goes into running this massive operation. Second Harvest is a nation wide food scarcity program helping thousands of families and individuals overcome food scarcity in challenging times. 

This was a pretty special moment for us. When we first dreamed about connecting with people and creating a project to give back - we dreamed of seeing people in person. We wanted to meet people, volunteer to and actively help share their vision and the work they were doing. 

And then lockdown came. 

We believed in this project so much that we decided to turn it into a podcast. While BK was walking on the beach one morning, the name Hidden Pearls came to him. Emma watched a bunch of YouTube videos, called some friends in the industry and figured out how to produce a show.

2 weeks later we were recording our first episode. Second Harvest of Silicon Valley was our first guest. 

To go and meet them was a complete honor. To see their distribution, how much food they turn out and the dedication of the people working there was incredible. 

Since starting the show, in a combined effort with TEU, we have donated a total of $20,000. Those funds have provide 40,000 meals.
