  • What Really IS Team Building?

The term “team-building” is thrown around quite often describing any type of activity that is likely to build some type of camaraderie or team environment. However, the specific activities and games that make up a good event can be lumped into a few types of categories. The success of your company depends on its foundation: customers, profit, and company culture. Team building exercises are a great way to connect staff and build a positive culture.

The effectiveness of the exercises or events depends on the inclusion of the whole team, in smaller teams, aiming for a shared goal. Some involve a random object, such as tennis balls, while other fun activities could use puzzle pieces with trivia questions.

It's incredibly important to not just understand what team building is and why it's important, but also what TYPE of team building is best suited for your team, and today that's what I will be covering!

  • Generating Secondary Sources of Income

Welp, we're finally here, the last secret to building wealth. Maybe "secret" is the wrong word because, especially in this case, this is a tip that I'm sure you've heard before. It's almost universally known as the biggest factor in building substantial wealth. The great divider between "just getting by" and "being well off". Secondary sources of income.

Almost all industries have a salary cap so, no matter how much you make at your job (and you can certainly make a lot), there is a point where growing isn't really an option anymore. At that point, your money needs to make money. Investments, stocks, side business's you're hands off on, these are the way you can really grow exponentially, and that's what we're going over today.

So stick around as I tell you my experiences and what I've learned whenever it comes to amassing different avenues of making money.

  • Increasing Your Main Source of Income

Last week, on the first episode of this 3 part series, I went over how to develop the right mindset to start building personal wealth, and the pitfalls such a mindset brings with it. But just a way of thinking isn't enough to make money, it's the way in which you apply that mindset to your life that really is how the change comes.

This week we're gonna be covering how to apply that mindset to increase your main source of income. It's all too easy to get a position at a job that provides a decent starting salary but then never have any idea how to grow. Anxieties about asking for a raise, increased commission, or starting a second job can cause people to have lifetime monetary paralysis, and today I'll be going over how to get out of that.

  • Improving Your Mindset to Grow Wealth

Get rich schemes are scams. I'm sure this is something we all know and looking at the title of this series may lead you to believe this is just another one, but I will tell you right now listening to this podcast won't make you rich overnight.

Accumulating wealth for most is a slow, arduous process with tons of ups, downs, risks, and failures. It's also something that's not guaranteed and takes a lot of focus and work, but there is a best way to do it. All stories of wealthy people go largely the same way, hit all the same beats, and have unmistakable similarities that seem to work. And I can say from personal experience, after years of incorporating these characteristics of successful people, I made my first million dollars.

In this series I will be telling you everything that got me there. The similarities all successful people have, how to start involving those traits in your day to day life, and how to expedite the process (with the risks that come from doing that).

  • 5 Simple Tips to Being an Amazing Supervisor

Here are a few tips for new supervisors that can help you motivate your team and increase efficiency. This is a continuation of our “soft skills” series. In the first session, we talked about what soft skills are and why they are important in any role. Then, we divided these skills into four segments — leadership skills, management skills, supervisor skills, and interpersonal skills.

In this session, we are going to focus on the list of supervisory skills. As we talked about in the Soft Skills session, supervisor skills are a subset of managerial skills. Recall that leaders create the vision or new path. Then managers make the navigation of that path more efficient. Well, supervisors have the same goal as the manager. However, the supervisor often doesn’t yet have the authority to make changes to processes or personnel.

Supervisors are often managers-in-training. They are responsible for the results. However, in many cases, they may not have a lot of authority yet. As a result, people skills will be important to their success.

  • Why Adaptive Communication Is Important in the Workplace

This week, Roma is filling in for Doug to talk about something she and everyone else has experienced in every workplace out there. Miscommunications!

Speaking to different people, in different circles, doesn’t seem like a big deal. It’s just speaking. We do it all the time and some of us do it for our jobs, everyday.

However, think about it. How many times have you spoken to a family member, a coworker, or a boss and were met with looks? Confused, disgruntled even, by how you worded something. Are you talking over their head or unintentionally “dumbing it down” for them? Or do they pick up what you said easily with no confusion or misunderstandings?

Learning how to read a situation and adapt your language to it is one of the most important things someone can learn in business, so stick around and figure out just how to maneuver it!

  • What is Strategic Thinking?

I remember going on an important job interview decades ago. The person interviewing me asked, “In this company, we like to hire strategic thinkers. How much time per week do you spend on strategic thinking?” I had been on a number of different job interviews by that point in my life. However, this question stunned me. I wasn’t sure exactly what the interviewer was asking. As a result, I wasn’t sure how to answer either.

By the way, I did get a nice job offer from that company. So, I must have answered the question fairly effectively. However, after managing my own company for over 20 years, I now better understand what the interviewer was getting at. Strategic thinking skills are one of the most sought-after skills in the business world.

But what exactly are strategic thinking skills? With how sought after these skills are and how impactful they can be on a business, knowing what they actually are is a pretty important first step to mastering them. In today's episode, find out exactly what they are, why they're desired, and how you can start improving yours.

  • Experience is (NOT) the Best Teacher

Who said that experience is the best teacher? Well, just about everyone who has ever taken a class on a subject and who later struggled to apply the content. In fact, one of the reasons why we attract so many people to our leadership classes is that we understand that people learn by doing.

When a teacher or coach gives us instructions, their words are just theoretical knowledge. However, when we put those words into practice and experience success, the words become very practical. So, this statement is absolutely true that when you consider how the repetition of new experiences builds confidence in a skill.

But there are certain things that experience can't teach you, and a couple pitfalls relying on experience can send you down. Stick around and find out why experience isn't always the best teacher and how you can make it all it's hyped up to be!
