High School Slumber Party

As we close 2020, Slumber Party host Brian Rodriguez decided to assign himself the huge homework assignment of watching every single teen film from 2020 as a gift to the slumberers. In part 1, Brian chats about All the Bright Places, All Together Now, American Pie presents Girls Rules, Another Round, Chemical Hearts, Clouds, Critical Thinking, Enola Holmes, Never Rarely Sometimes Always, Onward, Stargirl, The Half of It, the Vast of Night, The Way Back, Unpregnant, and Yes God Yes.

The Godfather Joey Lewandowski joins the slumber party on Jesus's birthday as we're talking an ever so rare teen Christmas film; Better Watch out! What may seem like a tropey horror film at first glance is flipped on its head by an exciting and deadly twist, all wrapped in the peppermint and illumination that make this time of year so special. Also, an old friend calls in to wish Brian a merry Christmas on this most blue of Yuletide gatherings.

Raise your glass to the Foodie Films Man Kyle Reinfried, as he drops by the Slumber Party to talk a new film with Oscar buzz; Another Round. This Danish film (also known as Drunk and Druk) stars Mads Mikkelsen as one of four high school teachers and friends who decided to drink alcohol on a daily basis to see how it affects their creativity as well as their professional and family lives. Kyle and Brian discuss the tragic circumstances surrounding the filming, sazeracs, Denmark, graduation caps, Mads Mikkelsen's glorious dance moves and a whole lot of life as well.

Cousin Pumkin stops by the Slumber Party to play a couple rounds of Two Truths and a Lie and to chat the 2002 Frankie Muniz and Amanda Bynes film; Big Fat Liar (B.F.L., the Biffle). Not only is this the film that turned Paul Giamatti blue, it also features Donald Faison, Sandra Oh, Lee Majors and John Cho among other surprises. Find out what the cousins thinks of the film and who makes the list of Pumkin's Baddies.

Jenny O'Connell returns to the slumber party to spill some tea and have a kiki as she chats the brad new Netflix musical, The Prom. With a star studded cast of Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Kerry Washington, Keegan-Michael Key and Andrew Rannells along with newcomer Jo Ellen Pellman help tell the story (based on a musical of the same name) of an Indiana teenager ostracized for wanting to take her girlfriend to prom. Oh yeah the movie also stars James Corden and let's just say Jenny is not a fan...

Shazam! Just say the word and not only will Mike Manzi return to our slumber party, but he'll also tell us all about the origins of Captain Marvel...or Shazam as he's known today as we take a very nerdy and fun deep dive into the 2019 DCEU film staring Zachary Levi.

Finally we bring the Twilight Saga to a close (for now) as Kate Hudson is back to talk the final installment in the franchise; Breaking Dawn part 2. As we conclude our first lap in our Twilight forever series, Brian and Kate discuss Jacob falling in love with a baby, surprise appearances from Lee Pace, Rami Malek and Wendell Pierce, and of course Michael Sheen's amazing laugh!

Imagine a film written and produced by Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry and directed by Barbarella director Roger Vadim. Now imagine this film stars Rock Hudson as a married playboy Vice Principal/Guidance Counselor/Football coach, Telly Savalas doing his best Kojak impression a couple of years before Kojak, Roddy McDowall and Angie Dickinson. Thanks to guest Galen Howard, we're talking all about this outrageous film; Pretty Maids All in a Row. Despite having an 8% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, this sex romp murder comedy (?) was called one the greatest films of all time by some director named Quentin Tarantino. Listen and find out why!

Are you a superhero or a sidekick...or rather...hero-support? Find out when Dan "The Duke" Hayden returns to chat Sky High; a kids movies with a ton of cameos to make the adults smile. Starring Kurt Russell, Kelly Preston, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Michael Angarano this action packed film about a superhero high school in the sky might not be made for Dan and Brian's age group but there are enough laughs and cool moments to inspire conversation of heroic proportions. It's a kids movie! It's a satire! No, it's both!
