Are you ready for your very first High School Slumber Party babysitting assignment? Kate Hudson is back to discuss what could possibly be her favorite film in the #Hudson5, Adventures in Babysitting! The Godfather himself, Joey Lewandowski, acts as the voice of reason this week as the gang discuss the problematic elements of the film, Kate's love of Keith Coogan and lust over George Newbern, Ron Canada (of course), and everything that makes Elisabeth Shue (and her hair) so great! We promise you won't have a case of the Babysitter Blues after having a listen.
For the first summer 2020 edition of High School Slumber Party, Brian welcomes Mr. Third Time's, Mike Manzi, and Angus himself, Charlie Talbert, to discuss 3 O'Clock High: a film so simple in its premise but so engaging in its execution, as Jerry Mitchell tries every trick in the book to avoid his inevitable confrontation with the seemingly indestructible Buddy Revell. Find out which A-list director was originally attached to the film, Mike's original thoughts watching it as a child, and Charlie's passion for the film that still resonates today.
Another school year is in the books on High School Slumber Party. As we complete our sophomore year, find out who the slumberers voted for in categories like Most Likely to Succeed, Class Song, The Science Award, the first ever Han Lue Memorial Mentor Award, Coolest Car in the Parking Lot, and much more! The Godfather Joey Lewandowski (2 Fast 2 Forever) joins Brian in hosting the festivities for the Class of 2020. Stay tuned 'til the end of the episode to find out your summer school fate!
Oh, yeah... Chrisian Larson is back at the High School Slumber Party for our super-sized sophomore season finale to talk about one of the most ICONIC teen films ever: John Hughes's Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Christian and Brian discuss all their favorite scenes and characters while breaking down what makes Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick) the most popular nerd of all-time. Also, a familiar voice drops in to break down a famous food scene.
For the final Cheer Monday of the season, Jenny O'Connell is back in the sleeping bag to talk about Sugar and Spice, a film about a group of cheerleaders who turn to bank robbing to solve their teenage problems. While some of these problems are bigger than others (like a teenage pregnancy and a mother locked up in prison for life), the ensemble -- led by Marley Shelton and Mena Suvari -- form a masked, tight-knit unit different from any cheerleading film covered on this podcast. From Jenny stanning James Marsden to all things bad, nice, and everything else about Sugar and Spice, High School Slumber Party has you covered as our sophomore year winds down.
High School Slumber Party goes back to 1967 to talk about a classic film showcasing one of the most successful and revered actors of all-time: Sidney Poitier in To Sir, with Love. Joining Brian are good friends John Hardin and the Foodie Films Man himself, Kyle Reinfried, to break down the tale of Thackery: an engineer by trade who finds himself a teacher at a tough inner city London school. While the exact words of Thackery's lessons may not seem "woke" today, the meaning behind his lectures on self-respect, racism, and humanity ring incredibly true in 2020. What may be ringing in your ear, however, is the film's super-catchy theme song sung by co-star Lulu!
There won't be much sleeping this Cheer Monday at the Slumber Party as returning guest Christian Larson keeps us up all night with a chat about a formative film in the cheer movie genre, Gimme an F. While this movie (currently in the public domain) may look like a campy T and A B-film at first glance, there's much more behind the pom-poms than meets the eye. Will Gimme an F earn an A from Larson and Brian? Listen and find out... and don't be surprised if you're dancing in the shower come morning!
Brian goes to prom once again, this time with Third Time's A Charm host and Prom Night veteran Mike Manzi. After covering Prom Nights 1, 2 and 3 last year, Mike and Brian have the night of their lives diving into Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil. Ironically for a film named Prom Night, the movie has very few scenes that involve prom, as a potentially supernatural priest hunts down a foursome of unsuspecting teenagers at their parents' summer home. Also, find out which other forth films in a series Mike enjoys the most!
