In the midst of painful circumstance, we must embrace God and his plan. He will act in his time and in his way. He is more than enough to be our safety, support, and satisfaction.

How can we pay back God for all that he has done for us? We cannot pay God back. The only thing we can do is to take even more, serve him, and worship him.

In this message from Psalm 116:1–11, we consider the psalmist’s love for God, the desperate situation from which God delivered him, and the reality of trusting God even in seasons of pain and uncertainty. The psalm reminds us that God is gracious, righteous, and merciful; that He hears the cries of His people; and that He alone provides true rest for our souls. Ultimately, Psalm 116 points us to the gospel and the gracious rescue God has accomplished for us through Jesus Christ. Because God has rescued us, we can trust Him, rest in Him, pray to Him, and walk before Him in the land of the living.

Destination cannot separate us from God, distance cannot separate us from God, and darkness cannot separate us from God. The omnipresence of God is a warning against hidden sin and a profound comfort for those who trust him.

What do we give God in response to all His grace and mercy toward us? Psalm 116 answers with a surprising truth: we cannot pay God back. We respond to His grace by receiving more of it.

God is all powerful. That reality should lead to humility, boldness in prayer, and a deeper reliance on Him for strength in daily life

We change, God never does. His steadfast character is our stability.

God's infinite knowledge of the past, present, and future should inspire deep worship. God is caring and sovereign over creation. We should be encouraged to pray because God already knows our needs.

We are completely dependent and insufficient. God alone is completely independent and self-sufficient. God's name reveals his eternal, sovereign, unchanging, and all-sufficient character. Our greatest need is met in Him alone.

Scripture reveals God as the Creator of time, the unchanging "I AM," and the sovereign Lord. God's eternality is the foundation of our hope, assurance, and joy. Only the eternal God can truly satisfy the human soul.
