  • "No Stranger To Busyness" | 2020.11.29 - John Riemenschnitter
While we might have imagined that the quarantine and isolation of the COVID pandemic would make us less busy, the irony is
that in many ways, we’re busier than ever. Jesus, too, was no stranger to busyness. And in Mark 1, he models the importance of connecting with God in the midst of the constant demands of his ministry. As we seek to learn from Jesus, today we’re introducing a simple prayer practice for the Advent season to similarly keep us connected to God’s presence with us.

  • "No Stranger To Marginalization" | 2020.11.15 - John Riemenschnitter
After the Magi visited Jesus, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and told him to take Mary and Jesus to Egypt, where they lived as refugees until Herod’s death. When Jesus proclaimed that he himself was fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy in the synagogue in Nazareth, that divine mission was also a lived experience. Jesus’ own story— his own human experience— was very much aligned with the heart of the kingdom he came to inaugurate.

  • "No Stranger To Chaos" | 2020.11.08 - John Riemenschnitter
Suffice it to say, 2020 has been a dark and tumultuous year. Similarly, the time of Jesus' coming was a time of intense political and social unrest in Israel, which means that from the moment of his birth, Jesus was no stranger to chaos. As both the prophet Isaiah promised, and the angels announced to the shepherds, Jesus came to bring peace— to bring wholeness to our relationship with God, and others. As Jesus’ followers, we are called to the hard work of bringing peace to our relationships, and making the presence of God’s kingdom visible in a beautifully tangible way.

  • "Don't Whine" | 2020.10.25 - Esther Chang
What orients and grounds you during times of instability and stress? Join us as we discuss the story of Korah’s rebellion in Numbers 16 by taking a look at what our complaints reveal about our underlying orientation. We will see what lessons we learn from Moses about how to complain less, and what God reveals about himself as he invites us to a table in the wilderness.

  • "Finding Someone To Love" | 2020.10.18 - David Haley
This week we explore God’s righteous anger with the Israelites in Numbers 14, and the role Moses plays interceding on their behalf. We look at some foundational elements of God’s anger in the Scriptures and consider the power of intercession by God’s people today.
