This week Gareth Edwards of Gareth’s World Podcast joins me as we discuss the various incarnations of the War of the Worlds, yes even that horrid piece of work from Spielberg. In the end I think we agree that for the moment at least War of the Worlds the Musical remains “the definitive” interpretive version (excluding the book) which given there has been at least 5 movies, a TV series and a radio play is a pretty staggering achievement. Dave Probert Returns to answer the challenge : “Pick your top 5 Who Writers”. The easy jobs huh? Well despite my recording software giving Dave the dalek treatment, what transpired can be considered well thought out, controversial, even inspired.

This week I explore the science fiction concept of aliens that visit earth and aren’t friendly. I had an awesome discussion with Bret Hammond author of “Rural Dead”. We cover books such as War of the Worlds, The Puppet Masters, Starship Troopers, Movies such Battle Los Angeles, Skyline, Independence Day and The Day the Earth Stood Still. We also explore the roots of our fears of death from the skies covering topics such as mythology, the bible, stephen hawking, 9/11 and why it’s a really bad idea to have a beard that Osama Bin Laden would be proud of.

This week I did an interview with Dave Probert who proved to be even more interesting than he sounds on Shake and Blake. We went behind the scenes of Blakes Seven to discuss its literary roots, influences and the things that it influenced. Dave’s knowledge of Blakes 7 is incomparable as was his insightful views on what makes Blakes 7 unique. If you like Blakes 7 this is one not to miss.

This month I was joined again by Mike Featherstone as we discussed the late 70’s early 80’s Science fiction series Blakes 7 and some of the shows that drew inspiration from it. What set’s Blakes 7 apart is it’s characters, the dark view of a future totalitarian humanity and ‘the end’ one of the most unique and confronting ways of drawing a story to a close. Once again mike provides a whole bunch of insights and thoughts that mean even I was learning things. Thanks Mike – you realise I will be back for more

This month on “Highway to Mars” I am joined by Mike Featherstone as we continue the discussion started by the Anomaly Podcasts Jen and Angela on the David Brin Article – “Star Wars” despots vs. “Star Trek” populists. Mike and I go through the key points made by brin and see whether his conclusion stacks up. I have to say we are both fans of both series but we both went into reading the article with an open mind and drew our conclusions separately. Rick as always played MC/Referee, it was an interesting discussion.
