Lori takes listeners on a day of adventures at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Michigan.
Michigan's Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore encompasses a 60 km (35 mi.) stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, as well as North and South Manitou Islands. The park was established primarily for its outstanding natural features, including forests, beaches, dune formations and ancient glacial phenomena. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore also contains many cultural features including an 1871 lighthouse, three former Life-Saving Service/Coast Guard Stations and an extensive rural historic farm district. We discuss planning, transportation, campsites, privies (bring TP!), moose encounters and the legend of the over protective, dive bombing Goshawk. We talk about the highlights and the no so fun moments. But in the end, it sounds like they wouldn't trade any of them.

Lori explores the Sanilac Petroglyphs Historic State Park in Sanilac County, Michigan
8251 Germania Road
Cass City MI, 48726
The main feature of the park is a 1,000-square-foot sandstone outcrop with around 100 petroglyphs on it. The largest grouping of such carvings in Michigan, they were likely carved between 400 and 1,400 years ago. They were discovered by the area's settlers after much of the Thumb region was burned by a massive forest fire in 1881.
Among the depictions of swirls, lines, handprints, and living beings are:
