Hindsightless

I saw the new Dune movie.

Just a couple quick non-session recaps and a non-unboxing. It’s more interesting than it sounds!

What? It's totally different. I used "Books" instead of "Death" this time. Totally different. I got some really cool messages about my discussion of Jack Vance's Dying Earth stories and I want to share them with you! We have calls from the GMologist, the Arcane Alienist, and the Shadow of the GM. So many cool monikers calling in to my show. Y'all make a Blind Rat feel so loved!

It’s a 20+ minute long ramble on the way I prep for a new game. No calls. No weighty subjects. Just me talking about doing something I love.

I said I wouldn't talk about this silly "debate" anymore unless people specifically wanted to. Well, turns out some folks had some stuff to say! Julz from NZ let's us know how she feels about the opposing arguments, Barney's back with a vengeance, and Safer has the perfect analogy. Granted, the opposition doesn't seem to care how good an analogy is, but we still try. We start off the show with the GMologist describing one of my nightmares in horrifying, exquisite detail.I also may have been a bit tipsy whilst recording this episode. It's going to be a fun romp!

Calls from Karl, Spencer and Jason lead me into the meat of this episode. I give my final thoughts (yeah, right) on the idea that the players and the DM are playing different games. Is that why I've heard some UK folks refer to it as a Games Master? It’s all so clear now! I've been so blind!

Content Warning: In this episode I touch on some sensitive subjects. I talk about fictionalized sexual assault and domestic violence. If you don't want to hear about those topics, please skip the section where I discuss The Dying Earth or pass this episode by completely.

Like it says on the tin, in this episode I talk about my five favorite spooky monsters and discuss my thoughts on book 1 of the Dying Earth series. I bounced off the book the first time I tried it, what do I think now that I've finally read it/ Find out now!

Spencer, BJ, Karl and Jason have stuff to say about wandering monster tables, fudging, breakfast cereal, and Judas Priest, but mostly wandering monster tables, I promise. It's a good time!

I tell the tale of one of the most exciting and dynamic fights I’ve ever had playing Pathfinder and answer Jason‘s question about my thoughts on wandering monsters. BJ and Karl join the club as well today. It’s one hell of an episode!

Calls from Karl, Spencer, Jason, and Daniel on the topic of player skill, what it means, and why it's important.
