She underwent her residency in Anesthesiology at UNMC and completed an Executive Fellowship in Perioperative Echocardiography at the University of Utah Medical Center.  Sasha is a wife, mother of four, physician, clinical scientist, national educator, writer, and speaker.

Dr. Kass left Staten Island 5 years ago to join the faculty at NYU as their director of undergraduate medical education. Dr. Kass stepped back from her defined title at NYU to focus on FemInEM, an open access resource for women in EM. Most recently, she now serves as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center in NYC where she is also the Director for Equity and Inclusion in the ED. Dr. Kass lives in Brooklyn NY with her husband, Michael and 3 kids, Hannah, Charlie and Sam.

    Dr. Dawn Baker is an anesthesiologist, blogger, author, mother and cancer survivor. In this episode, we discuss how she started her blog Practice Balance as a way to relieve stress during a difficult time in her life and how it has grown into so much more over the past seven years. She gives us great tips for stress management, blogging and how to practice balance in all areas of your life as a busy physician and mother.

Heather explains how she and a few friends helped a rural community in Uganda start the non-profit Global Emergency Care. That then grew into an entire program for training nurses and other healthcare providers to run the unit.     Heather Hammerstedt, MD, MPH is a board-certified emergency physician in Boise Idaho and did her postgraduate residency in Emergency Medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess’s Harvard Affiliated Emergency Medicine Residency program. She is also one of the founders of the nonprofit 501c3 organization, Global Emergency Care (GEC) and currently functions as Executive Director. GEC currently has an ongoing clinical, academic, and consultant relationship with stakeholders in Uganda, where they have created the country’s first emergency medicine training programs for advanced providers and physicians and are working with the national government to create a national emergency care system.
