UP FIRST - it's the Eagles, winning a squeaker in Buffalo. Dude, we had them shut out in the first half! We know the defense is epic, an all-timer, a total bulldozer of a squad. But the offense, I mean LORDY what do we do with that? Is there a "switch" that can happen in the playoffs? Well, with the Eagles in line to host the first round at home, we need to see it. Commies at the Linc to wrap out the season on Sundee, Morman Missile under center. Book it.

The Sixers - a bit of a roller coaster on the west coast swing, but we had an instant classic in Memphis to enjoy (along with last nights solid wire-to-wire win against the Mavs and COOP in Dallas). And JoJo starting to WARM UP 30 games into the season :-). But it's always a great thing to watch "Maxey and the VJ" every night - turning into the most dynamic duo in the NBA HMMM??

And then yes, you all finally get a Flyers segment! They have been on their own long west coast trudge, and it's been about a .500 affair...but the last couple of games show a really creative and unrelenting offense. Can their defense show up a bit more to protect that possible Venezia Trophy finalist between the pipes? If you don't know what I just said there, you need to watch more hockey. Don't worry, Bob's gonna watch.

Pleased to serve up another holiday fruit cake of an episode so you can leave your ear buds in while your holiday-visiting in-laws bug you about why the coffee isn't ready by 6am. Ok that might be a little too on the nose for yours truly, but YOU GET ME. Time to celebrate the upcoming new year, and time to assess how the Sixers and Eagles are doing.

First up it's the amazing Valdez Drexel Edgecombe Junior (totally his name) and his ascendency to the heights of the NBA elite. Will his pairing with potential MVP candidate Tyrese Maxey go well with his own ROY campaign? The Sixers dropped one in Brooklyn last night (after this recording), so let's see if we can get some consistency going there.

Next up - the Eagles as we "bask" in a 2 game winning streak. Are we jelling just in time for the postseason? Are we getting healthier? Is a Buffalo game in December in sub-freezing temps and wind just a STATE OF MIND? We shall see if we can get this one done and cement a higher spot in the post-season seeding. Congrats to your REPEAT NFC EAST CHAMPS the Philadelphia Eagles!

We did some UPGRADES to end the year folks. New mics for the crew, courtesy of Santa. I hope you're reading this part, because this is additional "content", which we're told people enjoy.

So CONTENT AHOY as we catch up after 2 weeks...which means that it's time to go LOW and HIGH on the Birds. It's the end of a losing streak, but we've learned a lot about this team. Mike is in a bit of a wellness check zone during this episode. We righted the ship, but the next three games will tell us what kind of playoff caliber squad we are this year.

We also needed to get back to - everyone's favorite winter activity - offseason baseball meetings! The Phils bring back KYLE for another 5 years. Locking in a centerpiece, you gotta love it. But what other moves are a'comin? We welcome Garcia, could be an interesting prove-it year. But maybe time for Crawford in CF? We ponder, we wonder, and we look forward to pitchers and catchers reporting.

Somehow we still crammed in a bit of the Sixers and the Flyers, but next week - maybe JUST in time for Christmas, we'll go deeper on these possible playoff-level teams. HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you, Hoagie Mouth Nation.

Look, it's been a rough couple of weeks for Philly sports ('ceptin the Flyers though!), so Jeff forgot that he MAY also host a SECRET OTHER podcast. With a similar name. We doubt it, because the full panel is IN with ENERGY this week. Eagles drama got you down? We have the holiday antidote to that. Sixers making you tear out your toupee? Settle down and don't act turrible.

But for reals, we take both the Eagles and the Sixers to task for their frustrating and uneven year to date. There is time in both seasons - with the Birds being the most urgent. Today there's news that a Slay reunion could be coming...and sure, that's nice...but it's time to BRING it to LA on Monday night. Sure seems far away...

Next it's Sixers time, with a post-Joel / Maxey-led version of the team coming into focus. Time will tell if this is just a .500 team with bubble playoff aspirations...or if the injuries can clear up at the right time to give this team a spark. Will be great to get Oubre back.

Flyers - been on a TEAR and we hope it continues, not withstanding the drubbing we received at the hands of the Pens. Crosby you DICK. Let's get a bounce back game going for your "playoff level" Flyers. And get well Tyson, we're gonna need you healthy down the stretch.

I can only fit TWO titles into the the podcast title. But just know we do get to the Phillies.

BUT FEAR NOT Philly phaithful, we bring the power and the PAIN to this episode of Hoagie Mouth. A spicy hoagie spread, if you will. North Wilmington's finest Matt F joins us again to pontificate on your favorite winningest team that everyone loves to hate. The Eagles are 8-2 but is it a MIRAGE? Or are we well on our way to the Super Bowl repeat? Maybe both things can be true. We dissect it all, from the yucko stinko offense to the wowza stunna D. It's a mixed bag, and you'll LIKE IT.

Next - we go enthusiatic on the Sixers and Mad MAXEY, who has just skyrocketed again to the highest echelon of the sport. It does feel like "his team" now, but hey, we just got PG back, and JoJo is not far behind. What team will take the court on a given night? Come back in the weeks ahead to get our take on that shiz.

Lastly, it's "Choose Yer Phillie" as we move into the free agency period. What will happen as the choices do get made...Kyle or Ranger? JT or Bader? Can't I haz them all? No? Harumph.

Ah YES, I really look forward to when we can get all FLYERED up - and as regular Hoagie Mouthers know, that means TIM F has joined us again! We break down all of the movings and the shakings on the 2025-26 hockey squad, 15 games into the season. We're hot and we're cold like Katy Perry on them Flyers. Maybe Michkov can get all of his focus and mechanics down - and Tocc should be the coach to get the best out of him. We even live-look-in on the game against the Oilers. For some reason, we keep scoring game-winners that get called back, and then we lose. Like last night.

BUT lots to get positive about. The Capitals are doing worse than us LOLOL.

Onto everyone's favorite world champion team that gets GRIPED ABOUT on a daily basis - the Eagles! Another win, another fountain of consternation sprays its negativity over the city. But like AJ said yesterday in his locker room presser....anyone with eyes can see that the offense is off, and it's egregious that we're not using #11 to the extent that we should. I suppose we should have a nice casual "get right" game again on Sundee *checks notes* OH MAN it's SNF against the Lions at the Linc! We are getting healthy, and we're getting ready.

Well folks - it's here - it's an ELECTION DAY SPECIAL episode of Hoagie Mouth - where we touch on politics but dive DEEP on all things Philadelphia Sports.

We simply cannot ignore the (idle on the field but not the front office!) Eagles, who continue to add some pieces to round out their defensive staffing. We have a new Jalen! It's Jaelan Phillips from the Dolphins...not sure if I've seen a Jalen spelled that way yet. NO MATTER - it's best available Jalen, every time all the time. We start to predict how the return of the Birds is gonna go - this time it'll be a Monday night matchup on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. Do your best John Facinda voice.

And then - we embrace the *checks notes* SUPER HOT START for the Sixers. Is their 5-1 record a mirage? Or is this the real deal? We focus on those first few games and start to wonder...is it gonna be a battle for the ages this season against the Celts and the Knicks? Yup. And we haven't even seen McCain and George on the court yet. We are trending UPWARDS ARROW.

Next week - the Flyers, I promise. It's a lot. Gonna get Tim on. He knows hockey like Tocc knows hockey.

Folks, we're in the prime of sports watching because baseball (RIP Phils), football, basketball AND hockey are all happening at the same time! It's glorious for most of us, except your host Jeff is struggling with the fact that baseball must continue when the Phillies get bounced outta the postseason.

But NO MATTER! We have the resurgent IGGLES who put a clinic down on the Giants, thereby offsetting the loss three weeks ago up the turnpike. Skattebo moment aside (eeesh buddy, wishing you the best in recovery), it was a glorious day, recounted by your co-host Mike who attended in person. So many aspects to praise and analyze...we did our best to get to them all. It's a bye week now, so we'll cover more in next week's episode.

And then...FINALLY...we get a HAPPY Mike who guide Bob and Jeff through the first 4 games of the UNDEFEATED season for the Sixers. Maxey, Edgecombe, Bona, Oubre, Drummond, GRIMES for chrissakes...all of sudden, a lot to crow about. Let's keep them Grimes VIBZ going.

Next week we will get to the Flyers, we PROMISE. We only have so much energy after a day slogging away at our real jobs. Hey, give us money, maybe we quit those jobs?!?!

Look, I got excited and THOUGHT it was episode 175, but no, it's 173. We're getting ever closer to 200 Episodes....I mean COME ON folks it's been a journey. One that we've been on, together. Thank you for your service.

FIRST UP - the return of BG 55, which is a mixture of YAY and OH MAN we have some ISSUES. Cuz if we were rushing the opposing QB with frequency and success, maybe Brandon coulda stayed retired. Let's see what we get, although we know we get his mouth at least!

But we spend a lot more time admiring the perfect passer rating of one Jalen Hurts...and the return of some smart, if still uneven, offensive play. Big D also got the job done - let's see what spark we get when are back home for GIANTS week.

Next - it's the Sixers Season Preview! Embiid, George, Maxey, Edgecombe, McCain...do we dare get excited? With JoJo losing weight and seemingly in the best headspace we've seen in years...all things are possible. PG 13 might even suit up. Heck it ALL BEGINS TONIGHT when the Sixers visit the Celtics.
