Hello guys, welcome back to another episode of The Hockey Talk with TG Podcast! In this episode, I break down the 99th career matchup between two of the greatest players in NHL history — Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby — as the Penguins took down the Capitals 5–3 on Thursday night.
Sidney Crosby scored twice on the power play, giving him 10 and 11 goals on the season and tying for the league lead. The Penguins captain continues to defy age — becoming just the third-fastest player 38 or older to reach 10 goals in a season, behind Gordie Howe and Alex Ovechkin himself. Crosby now has 127 points (48G, 79A) in matchups against Ovechkin, while Ovi added two assists after scoring his 900th career NHL goal just one night earlier. It was a classic showdown between two all-time legends in their 99th meeting overall.
Next, I talk about the Anaheim Ducks lighting it up again — this time in a wild 7–5 win over the Dallas Stars. Anaheim has now scored seven goals in back-to-back games, won five straight, and sits at 9-3-1 on the season.
Chris Kreider scored twice, Cutter Gauthier extended his point streak to eight games, and Ian Moore scored his first NHL goal. Leo Carlsson had a shorthanded marker, and Mason McTavish added an empty-netter as Anaheim’s young stars continue to roll. For Dallas, Wyatt Johnston and Mikko Rantanen both had three-point nights, but the Stars’ seven-game point streak came to an end.
Then I get into the Flyers’ 3–1 win over the Predators, as Nashville’s struggles continue to mount. The Preds have now lost three straight (0-2-1) and are 5-7-4 on the season. Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone goal for Nashville, while Dan Vladar improved to 5-0-1 in his career vs. the Preds with another strong outing.
I also discuss whether Andrew Brunette could be the first coach fired this season. Nashville’s offense has dried up, turnovers are killing momentum, and frustrations from veterans like Forsberg and O’Reilly are starting to surface. GM Barry Trotz says he’s staying patient, but this team is under real pressure to turn things around — and fast.
After that, we head to New Jersey, where Jesper Bratt scored the OT winner as the Devils edged the Canadiens 4–3. Bratt also added an assist, giving the Devils their 10th win and keeping them perfect at home (6–0–0). Timo Meier tied the game late with 1:07 remaining, and Jakub Dobes suffered his first loss of the season for Montreal after starting 6–0.
I also recap other games from Thursday’s busy NHL slate:
Bruins beat the Senators 3–2 in OT thanks to Pavel Zacha’s winner, Blues shut out the Sabres 3–0, and Hurricanes, Lightning, and Panthers all grabbed statement wins to stay hot in their respective divisions.
To wrap things up, I preview Hockey Hall of Fame Weekend (Nov. 8–10) in Toronto, honoring an incredible 2025 class: Zdeno Chara, Joe Thornton, Brianna Decker, Jennifer Botterill, Duncan Keith, Alexander Mogilny, Jack Parker, and Daniele Sauvageau.
Plus, we take a look ahead at Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada matchups:
Bruins vs Maple Leafs, Utah Mammoth vs Canadiens, Avalanche vs Oilers, and Blue Jackets vs Canucks.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the episode! 🎙️
