Really intense chapter but still way beautiful. God is like that parent who hits you with the belt because he doesn't want you to continue suffering from behaving like an idiot. It's worth it to Him for us to learn and you can feel that He loves you when He tells you why He does things. It's important to share the gospel so that others don't have to get more whoopin's than absolutely necessary.

Nuestra meta es la conversión

El propósito de toda enseñanza y aprendizaje en el Evangelio es profundizar nuestra conversión a Jesucristo y ayudarnos a llegar a ser más como Él. Por esta razón, cuando estudiamos el Evangelio, no estamos buscando simplemente nueva información, sino que queremos llegar a ser una “nueva criatura” (2 Corintios 5:17). Eso significa confiar en el Padre Celestial y en Jesucristo y depender de Ellos para cambiar nuestro corazón, nuestra visión, nuestras acciones y nuestra naturaleza misma.
Sin embargo, el tipo de aprendizaje del Evangelio que fortalece nuestra fe y conduce al milagro de la conversión no ocurre en forma inmediata, sino que se extiende más allá del salón de clases hasta el corazón y el hogar de las personas. Exige esfuerzos diarios y constantes por entender y vivir el Evangelio. No obstante, el Padre Celestial no espera que lo hagamos solos; Él enviará al Espíritu Santo para ayudar a que seamos convertidos.
El Espíritu Santo nos guía hacia la verdad y nos da testimonio de la verdad (véase Juan 16:13). Él ilumina nuestra mente, vivifica nuestro entendimiento y toca nuestro corazón mediante la revelación de Dios, la fuente de toda verdad. El Espíritu Santo purifica nuestro corazón. Él nos inspira el deseo de vivir conforme a la verdad y nos susurra maneras de hacerlo. Ciertamente, “el Espíritu Santo […] [n]os enseñará todas las cosas” (Juan 14:26).
Por estas razones, en nuestro esfuerzo por vivir, aprender y enseñar el Evangelio, lo primero que debemos procurar es la compañía del Espíritu. Esta meta debe gobernar nuestras decisiones y guiar nuestros pensamientos y acciones. Debemos procurar todo lo que invite a tener la influencia del Espíritu, y rechazar cualquier cosa que aleje esa influencia, porque sabemos que si podemos ser dignos de la presencia del Espíritu Santo, también podremos ser dignos de vivir en la presencia del Padre Celestial y de Su Hijo, Jesucristo.

July 23, 2021 Quran : Surah Al-Fatihah
Welcome back to Hoja de Lirio!
Today I noticed that though I meant to include sacred writings from many different faiths in this podcast, all of my episodes so far are from the Book of Mormon.
I have to admit I have a very strong bias in favor of the Book of Mormon, since it's all about Jesus, Who is simply the best.
But to begin remedying the deficit of other sacred writings, I want to share my favorite non-Christian scripture, which is Al-Fatihah, the first Surah in the Quran. It has special significance for me. See, the only thing I know about my paternal grandfather is his name (like him) is totally Arabic: Yamil Helou. Which means Beautiful Lovely, and from what I've learned so far I consider the language of Arabic very beautiful and sacred. In fact, it has many features in common with Hebrew.
Here we go. I'll give you the Surah in English in this episode. I wish it could be Arabic, but my Arabic is close to nil. Maybe in a future episode I'll try in Arabic. Without more adieu:
Surah Al-Fatihah
In the name of Allah,
the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.
All praise is for Allah, Lord of all worlds,
the Most Compassionate, Most Merciful.
Master of the Day of Judgment.
You alone we worship and you alone we ask for help.
Guide us along the straight Path,
the Path of those you have blessed
--not those you are displeased with,
or those who are astray.

Alma preaches a sermon about how beautiful and poetic Jesus and His whole life were. Full of grace, compassion, light, and so much love! I love Jesus, and also this sermon is fire!

Un interesante resumen de la historia, aunque rara vez no enrevesada, de los descendientes de Israel que vivieron en América del Norte unos pocos cientos de años antes de Cristo.
La oración de Enós es un hermoso arquetipo de una oración de salvación: reconoce tu pecado, recibe y sométete al Salvador, "cuando seas convertido, fortalece a tus hermanos" (Lucas 22:32).

The interesting summary of the albeit seldom not convoluted history of the descendents of Israel living in North America a few hundred years BC.
Enos's prayer is a beautiful archetype of a salvation prayer: acknowledge sin, receive and submit to the Savior, "when thou art converted strengthen thy brethren" (Luke 22:32).

Amulek enseña a los Zoramitas que Cristo es el Mesías y que deben orar al Padre en su nombre por todas las cosas. Dios nos ama intensamente y quiere abrazarnos con sus brazos de misericordia. Se nos da tiempo en esta vida para prepararnos para regresar a nuestro Hogar Celestial (con Su gran ayuda!).
