This is a classical Sanskrit Sutra from the Patanjali Yoga Sutras of yogic philosophy. It is a verse recommending compassion as a purification practice for your mind. This sutra suggests that by practicing friendliness to happy people, compassion to unhappy people, joy to virtuous people and equinimity towards un-virtuous people, then our minds becomes purified and we get shining bright awareness!
