  • How To Have An Attitude Of Gratitude

    Send us Fan Mail

As a child I always found it hard to find what I was thankful for - or they seemed to be trivial - you know, "I'm thankful for my toys, or that I got to have a down day from school (ha!)", but as an adult I am finding it's harder and harder to narrow down to five, let alone one thing I am most grateful for - God is SO good and as I mature and grow in my walk with Him I truly see something each and every day for which to give thanks - that alone I am grateful for.

One of the things I am grateful for this year - is you! It was one year ago this month that Holly's Highlights podcast launched. So much has happened within this first year of the podcast too. Holly's Highlights received "podcast of the month" on Podcastland during it's first month launched, has had 37 episodes published, thousands of downloads, 5 star rating on Apple podcasts, encouraging comments and feedback, and reaching sponsorship level - it is clear that God has been in this, and I am humbled and grateful to be apart of what He is doing in and through Holly's Highlights podcast. So thank you - listener, friend - for your support in making this happen.

So often we seem to expect blessings in life to come in a nicely wrapped package with a big giant bow on the top. But in reality our blessings come through our daily hardships, trials - and learning to have an attitude of gratitude - despite our circumstances or obstacles faced. Today we are going to dive into four ways we can adapt in having an attitude of gratitude.

    1) We must look for it.

    2) Write it down.

    3) Share it.

    4)Live it.

See, having an attitude of gratitude simply comes from being intentional in expressing our gratitude, or thankfulness, our appreciation in every part of our life. The good, the bad, the ugly.  Often in life we are constantly chasing the next thing. Yet as it's been said before, "Don't forget how badly you once wanted what you have now."  Sometimes in life we just get so busy wanting more or expecting for things to go differently, that we forget about what we already have - or the blessings that have come out of the altered path.

Don't miss out on your blessing because it isn't packaged the way that you expect. Today may we CHOOSE to have an attitude of gratitude. Happy THANKSgiving my friend.

Let's face it - We live in a very fast-paced world. Where we make time for everything except the one thing we often long for - REST. Unattainable or non-essential to some, rest is often necessary to retreat in order to advance.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us that there is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. There are four main reasons of rest that we will explore today on Holly's Highlights, as well as tips on how to find rest in the midst of our busy days.

  • Girls Trip!

    Send us Fan Mail

I grew up going on girls trips with my mom and absolutely loved that time together. From going back to Missouri to visit my grandparents, side adventures to Colorado to see old friends, quick overnighters in our home state, and fly-away journeys to women’s conferences…we absolutely loved our memories made together.

One year, my sister, mom and I had a purpose-filled trip to go help some family friends who were recently diagnosed with an incurable illness. Unfortunately, at last minute they had to cancel our coming and we soon found ourself with airline credit awaiting to expire. On the advice of my brother to go somewhere we’d never invest in going ourselves (we are all momma’s and usually invest our extra pennies toward our families) we decided to randomly pick an extreme destination…Beverly Hills, California.

We enjoyed our spontaneous trip so much that we decided from then on we would have an Annual Girls’ Trip. Sadly, after three years of our trips, our mother passed away so we ventured out on the fourth year Girls’ Trip in her honor. We realized how much we treasure these times together and have committed to continue such Annual tradition in honor of my mom. Not wanting to break the bank, yet desiring to personally splurge on fabulous weekends together, my sister (Christy) and I would like to share our adventures with you in hopes that as result they may help you in your Girl Trip planning.

Do you represent a destination, hotel, restaurant, tour, transportation, or site-seeing location you’d like for us to visit and possibly review? We'd love to partner with you on an upcoming Girls Trip adventure. Simply reach out to [email protected]

  • How to be a Barnabas in a Kardashian world

    Send us Fan Mail

Let's face it - life can be tough and we need each other. I think one way we can accomplish this is through encouragement. I've always liked what Barnabas in the Bible is known for. Acts 4:36 shares with us how Barnabas actually had a different name of Joseph, but then the disciples named him Barnabas as that actually means "son of encouragement."). Barnabas was all about focusing on others instead of himself and he was known as an encourager. Our world however tends to be so "me" focused. The media is flooded with tips and tricks on how to be happy, telling you just do what makes you feel good, and how to have it all - and we have all these reality shows of following people's drama. Now please note, I have nothing against the Kardashians, don't hear me wrong, but what I'm referring to is our society tends to teach us that the focus must be on us, that life is all about being happy, how many hits/followers/reaches/downloads can you get - as that will determine your sucess, your worth, your value, your - happiness or fullfillment. But it's so important we come together and focus on being there for one another, to have each other's backs, to encourage those around us - that it is when we humble ourselves, put others first, serve one another - that we are able to really see what matters - and that life isn't just "about me." Well, one way to do that - is to focus on not self, but others - through encouragement.

There are 7 ways that come to mind in how we can encourage others and we'll unpack these on today's episode of Holly's Highlights.

Proverbs 11:25 tells us "He who refreshes others will himself be refreshed." Who can you encourage and how can you encourage them? Instead of having the limelight on yourself. Go be a Barnabas, in a Kardashian world.

  • How to Deal with Disappointment

    Send us Fan Mail

Ever feel disappointed? Whether it be in people, situations, circumstances, or even your own behavior? According to BetterUp.com, disappointment tells you three important things:
    1) you're passionate about something
    2) it's an opportunity for growth
    3) It can make you stronger

No matter the reason or cause of disappointment, there are four main things we can learn from it which we'll discuss today.  Remember....others are watching how you deal with the disappointments in life: those you lead at work, your classmates at school, those impressionable eyes of your children, that neighbor across the street...lead by example. Chin up, push forward and despite the disappointment we can still choose to make it a great day for a great day.

  • Breaking the Chains of Addiction

    Send us Fan Mail

What seems to be on much of the world's mind - ok, aside from the ongoing pandemic - are the world games going on. I think everyone is appreciating the positive distraction right now. We've been going down to my dad's house to watch the competitions. I love hearing the stories of those who have overcome, persevered, and fought for something. One thing the summer games teaches us is that our past doesn't define us, but can act as a source of strength to us.

I recently was listening to a podcast, “The Erik Allen Show,” and I gotta tell ya, Eric's story was just as inspiring as any of those summer games stories. It gave me chills listening to the depth of his past such as choices that resulted in jail time, addictions that took him down a spiraling path, and yet the redemption of breaking free from the chains of his past.

Erik’s is an encouraging, inspiring, and equipping story of hope that you will not want to miss.

Ever feel as the definition of inferior states, "low in rank, status, or quality?" This might be at work, home, when out hanging with our friends, at school, or even when simply going about our day to day life in the community.

I think we have all battled this at one point or another. Check out this episode where we will discuss five areas that hopefully will encourage us when dealing with our own inferior complex.

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
