It was Marvin Gaye who guided the group to change their name to Frankie Beverly and Maze, setting them on a path to musical greatness. Their debut album in 1977 was just the start of a series of hits that spanned decades. Beverly was a beloved staple at the Essence Festival, where fans honored him this past summer by wearing white.
