Often times in life we experience a lack of faith. The Apostles on many occasions were scolded by the Lord for their lack of faith. On this the 10th Sunday of Matthew Father Paul shares with us, that to do anything good and virtuous in this life we must have faith in Christ. He gives us practical advice on how to strengthen our faith through fasting and prayer.

Today we celebrate the Major Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord. Father Micah shares with us that mountains are places of wonder and tragedy. Jesus Christ reveals to his Apostles and us His Divinity. The Apostles could not behold Him as He truly is and neither can we unless by God's Grace He removes the veils from our eyes.

What's love got to do with it? In today's world we see the word love everywhere. It is found in songs, movies,and literature. As Orthodox Christians our goal in life is to reach this "city of love". We are commanded to love God and neighbor. St. Paul tells us how to measure our love in I Cor. , which shows us how short we actually come to love. We forget that love is a journey and it will be long and arduous.

The world at times is a dark place. Darkness is defined as the absence of light. On this The Sunday of the Holy Fathers, Fr. Paul shares with us how the Holy Fathers of Orthodoxy through there lives and Ecumenical councils defend Faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. Each Orthodox Christian is too use the Light given to us in Baptism, by living lives of Faith in Christ, doing good works and observing the Commandments of God. Christ tells His disciples and us we are to let our lights shine for the whole world to see and give Glory to our Father in Heaven.

In today's world the knowledge of demons and the belief in their existence is suspect. In today's sermon Fr. Paul expounds on the Gospel lesson taken from Matthew 8:28-34;9:1 on this the 5th Sunday of Matthew. Jesus is confronted with two demon possessed men who recognize His divinity and are cast out into a herd of swine into water, which is symbolic of Baptism. We who have been Baptized into the Orthodox Church must recognize that satan and his demons have been renounced. To gain victory over the demons we must confess Christ and live for Him.

Images of gardens are throughout scripture. They are places of beauty, life and rest. The Church is seen as Christ's garden.The Apostles were given a task to be workers in Christ's garden which is the work of planting churches. The purpose of the Church or Christ's garden is to share with the world that Christ is Risen.
