  • The Pattern of Faith
All of us live by a combination of faith plus sight. We plan our days but submit our plans to the Father. But sometimes God asks os us to do things that goes against common convention, like Noah. Noah built a boat by faith. Abel teaches us what it means to worship God; Enoch what it means to walk with God; And Noah what it means to obey God. But it is Abraham who puts all the pieces together, and teaches us what is involved in living by faith. Living by faith is a pilgrimage. It involves patience as we wait on God to fulfill His promises. When we live by faith we experience the power of God as He does the impossible for us. But when we live by faith our faith is also tested to prove the genuineness of is. Abraham was tested when he offered up his son, Isaac. And finally, those who live by faith have an eternal perspective on life. This world is not our home. We are sojourners, pilgrims. But our true homeland is in heaven!!

  • Call of Abraham - When Should We Worship
The sermon explores the life of Abraham to illustrate that true worship and obedience stem from faith in God's promises rather than immediate circumstances. It emphasizes that salvation is by grace through faith alone, not by works, using Abraham as the model for trusting God before seeing fulfillment. The preacher argues that believers should maintain a posture of worship and mission even when facing hardship or uncertainty, just as Abraham did in a pagan land. By referencing biblical examples like the Psalms and Paul, the message encourages the congregation to view themselves as strangers on earth longing for a heavenly home. Ultimately, it calls listeners to respond to God's call with immediate obedience and persistent faith, regardless of their current situation. Outline: 1. God's Promises 2. Abram's Response of Obedience 3. Abram's Response of Worship

  • Homeward Bound: Chosen, Scattered, Tested
Yet Peter's first epistle begins this way: He tells his readers, scattered throughout the Roman world, all about themselves. Why? Clearly the apostle is burdened that his readers never forget who they are, whose they are, and where they're headed. If you forget who you are and whose you are and where you're headed... well, you're not going to think rightly, nor live rightly, in a world that seems increasingly strange to you. "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope...," 1 Peter 1:3 (LSB). Peter writes to remind homeward-bound Christians of the living hope that is theirs—and ours—as those who are chosen, scattered and tested. This Lord's Day we'll begin our look at 1 Peter and its rich instruction for us as Christian pilgrims on our way home. Join us as we consider, "Homeward Bound: Chosen, Scattered, Tested." Prepare for Sunday: Read 1 Peter in its entirety. What major themes dominate this letter? In the opening verses, what descriptions of Peter's readers apply to believers today? How do these descriptions impart hope to you? Where do you most need this hope in your daily life? Be specific. Note: This Sunday is also a Communion Sunday. Let's prepare our hearts now for this important time of remembrance and consecration

  • A Transformed Life
Simon, the Pharisee, has invited Jesus into his home as a dinner guest. It was common for leaders to invite visiting Rabbis, or nobleman into their homes during their visit to a city or village. This would usually be considered an honor to be invited, and a greater honor to have the invitation accepted. But, in this case, the Pharisee is not inviting Jesus into his home to honor Him, nor to learn of His wisdom. This invitation was, most likely, part of the ongoing plot to gather damning evidence against the man who kept claiming to be equal with God. Initially, Simon seems pleased to have this immoral woman in his home. He did nothing to prevent her from entering. He did nothing to have her stopped or removed from the home once she began her ministry to Jesus. Rather, he gloated at this further proof that Jesus could not be a prophet, since He didn't seem to know who and what she was. In His part, Jesus wanted to use this woman's ministry as an opportunity to follow up on His judgments concerning that generation of people who resisted and resented the preaching of the Kingdom of God. During this visit, He confronts Simon with his arrogance, and illustrates for him how a transformed life responds to the salvation that has been granted, by faith. Simon's heart is unchanged. The gospel has been rejected again. The Messiah is resented. His message of salvation by faith instead of works is rejected again. How long, O Lord, will this be tolerated?

  • Adorning the Doctrine of God: How a Christian Is to Live
The sermon explores how Christian conduct makes the teachings of God appear beautiful to the world, drawing primarily from Titus 2. It emphasizes that divine grace transforms believers into godly individuals who live out sound doctrine through self-control, dignity, and love. The message specifically exhorts older men to lead with wisdom and respect while urging younger men to pursue sobriety and integrity in all actions. By maintaining a blameless reputation at work and home, Christians demonstrate the power of the gospel to skeptics and peers alike. Ultimately, the preacher calls for intergenerational mentorship and personal repentance to align daily life with biblical truth.
