  • John D’Aquino, Veteran Actor and Master Acting Coach - Hometown to Hollywood
Welcome to the Hollywood Parents Guide Podcast!

This week’s guest is John D’Aquino, veteran actor and master acting coach. John teaches weekly classes, as well as private audition coaching and videotaping sessions in his Burbank studio. John also holds local seminars, workshops, and his annual summer camp– Camp Hollywood– in Burbank, and travels the country teaching his proven acting and audition techniques.

Some of my favorite quotes from this interview: "You want to leave an indelible mark in the room."

"Just do it. Just put one foot in front of the other."

"Then become the best actor in your category so you can erase the 'No's."

We dive deep into acting techniques, audition approaches, the differences in acting styles for different genres, including Disney Channel– and much more! Lots of stuff here for actors of any age, as well as their parents. Come join us.

  • Amy Anderson, Comedian, Actress, & Mother of Modern Family’s Aubrey Anderson-Emmons - Hometown to Hollywood
To celebrate the Season 8 premiere of Modern Family on September 21, I’m sharing a Hometown to Hollywood encore episode featuring Amy Anderson. Amy is an actress and comedian, and mother of actress Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, best known for her role of Lily on Modern Family.

In our conversation we discuss what it’s like to parent a very young professional actor, some of the challenges of being a Hollywood parent, advice for parents of very young kids who want to act, the difference between wanting to act and wanting to be famous, and much more. This episode was recorded a year ago this week, so while 98% timeless, it includes just a few dated references: for example, Amy and Aubrey’s YouTube Channel, Food Mania Review, is now a year old and going strong!

  • Dr. Yalda Uhls, Media Expert - Hometown to Hollywood
My guest this week on Hometown to Hollywood is Dr. Yalda Uhls. Yalda is a former Hollywood producer turned academic research psychologist, and the author of Media Moms and Digital Dads. I met Yalda when she was presenting a special workshop for Disney talent that included smart online practices, and immediately knew I wanted to talk more with her! She brings so much intelligence, heart, experience and perspective to this conversation-- her work is a huge contribution to all parents, but I think is especially relevant to parents of young actors.

The fact that Yalda is the parent of two teens herself lends a real-world perspective to her research, and her writing style is relatable and warm. She talks about best practices for parents and young people in navigating social media, busts some myths, and offers advice in how to help our kids navigate the crazy waters of their online lives. We cover some specifics for young actors and their families that are especially useful.
