We meet Sara and Travis, who are in their second marriage. We discuss what is helping make this marriage work including honesty, boundaries, healing from past relationships, and prioritizing the current relationship. Their interview is segmented into two episodes. 

When a couple decides that one member or both want to leave the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, there is a high probability that the relationship will not survive. I saw my own marriage dissolve after leaving the LDS faith. Meet Parley and Erica and their relationship that was actually strengthened by leaving the faith. We discuss their leaving of the religion, the impacts on their relationship, family, mental health, and a rediscovery of spirituality. They share advice on couples that decide to stay or leave. In this episode, we discuss our trip to Spain, what we saw, and what we learned about each other. We learned how to be a better team by becoming very aware of our strengths and weaknesses. This trip invigorated us as a couple. We attended a family wedding and it gave us some ideas for our own ;)

On today's episode, I introduce you to Madilynn. We discuss what it has taken for her to be in a healthy relationship.

We also discuss Rituals of Connection, a Gottman Institute principle for successful relationships. Rituals of Connection are ways that you formally and informally connect with your significant other to deepen your connection on a regular basis. Implementing these builds intimacy in your relationship, contributing to a healthy and happy life!

There are many stories of people leaving the LDS church and how this faith impacted their lives in a negative way. Here is part of our story and the impacts that leaving this religion has on our our relationship today. We both grew up in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints AKA Mormon religion. Sarah has been out of the LDS faith for 10 years and Tony has been out for 8 years. Despite being out of the religion for many years, we have religious programming that brings us shame and anger today. We discuss marriage, divorce, sexual shame, and the cost of leaving a purity culture.

We have a cycle that is degrading the quality of our relationship. Sarah has anger and resentment that feeds Tony's avoidance and secrecy, which then feeds the cycle over again. We are very vulnerable with you in this episode about how we are struggling, where it comes from, and what we are going to be doing about it. Thanks for listening.

In this episode, we talk through a conflict, get into a little more conflict, and then resolve the conflict. Relationships are work! But we are willing to show up and do it. Listen to us work through by listening, acknowledging, and apologizing. We get through our conflict by talking and texting as appropriate.
