On the first Hoof to Hat podcast of 2024, Russ and Rusty cover lots of topics since the holiday season.

Rusty talks about returning to the radio airwaves to help cover vacation times during December and spending New Year's Eve at the PRCA Xtreme Bull riding event at the Stormont Events Center in Topeka. 
Russ reveals new store hours at R Bar B. Rusty and Russ discuss personal goals for 2024 and the importance of being a good partner to your spouse.  They admit to recording the episode while drinking one of Russ's Christmas gifts from an employee. 
Rusty and Russ play one of Rusty's Christmas gifts to herself; the Life Story Interview game called Tales. Russ's family joins the podcast, and they all discover their Chinese Zodiac signs.

Russ tells Rusty about a recent trip he and his wife Dina make to the Ranch Rodeo Finals in Amarillo, Texas and what he thinks about the current state of the rodeo world.  Rusty had a heartwarming experience with a recent customer at R Bar B.  Russ and Rusty talk about Christmas, Thanksgiving and family traditions for Storytime.

The United Rodeo Association Finals were recently held in Topeka, KS. and 
Russ and Rusty pulled a few strings to convince Barry Wright of Wright Rodeo Company and Chuck McKellips of CR McKellips Rodeo Co. to spend time on the Hoof to Hat Podcast.

These two gentlemen talk about the ins and outs of rodeo stock contracting, up and coming rodeo contestants and working with family members,

There is more to a person than meets the eye and when it comes to cowgirls, Marilyn Domer of Kansas is a perfect example.  

This week Russ and Rusty help reveal some of this accomplished barrel racer/team roper's not-so-hidden talent...ART! Marilyn is a published illustrator whose art is featured in the popular children's books "Short Go Makes the NFR", "Short Go's BIG Ranch Adventure", Short Go coloring and activity books and now the latest book in the series "Short Go and the Junior Rodeo Trail". These books are based on true life ranch rodeo kid experiences and beautifully written by Marilyn's daughter, Lindsay Keller and proudly published and printed in the USA.

For Storytime, Marlyn tells two stories. One involving her dad and a bad pole bending run. Another involving a goat and the buttons on her blouse.  Rusty tells about accidently going bra-less at a rodeo.

This week the Hoof to Hat podcast went on the road to catch up with PAFRA member, roper, mounted shooter and full on interesting person, Shawn Day.

Shawn tells his side of everything including how a guy from Oklahoma doesn't start in rodeo until he is deployed in Germany. He explains how good he was at bull riding which is why he moved onto roping. Shawn tells about life in the military and the disfunctional support group he surrounds himself with thru Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association and how they all met. Of course, we talk about the sport of mounted shooting and how his wife rides better than he can.

This week Russ and Rusty catch up with clinician Lee Hart and his apprentice from Belgium, Mattijs Werbrouck. 
Mattijs is in the US to learn to train horses in the sport of EXCA which is becoming popular in Belgium. Mattijs is also getting ready to compete in the EXCA 2023 World Championship November 1-5 in Glen Rose, Texas. 
We find out what Belgium equestrians think of American Cowboys, the process of recovering from a horse related accident and where Belgium is on the map.
As usual, the conversation goes down a few "rabbit holes" including EPM in horses, dads handling daughter's boyfriends, how close Alaska is to Russia and how cornhole used to be a bad thing.

Russ and Rusty's conversation with members of the Professional Armed Forces Rodeo Association continues. In part two, Aaron Auld, Michael Hall, Jessica Beck, Travis Beck, Jeremy Johnson and Dakota Smithreman talk about the similarities and the differences between a PAFRA rodeo and a professional rodeo. Rodeo in Germany and rodeoing with NATO members is discussed. Aaron tells how he became the current PAFRA President and the ambitious goals they have for the future including giving away trophy saddles at this year's World Championship in Clovis, New Mexico.  Rusty askes the question that most military members hate but Dakota has the perfect answer for.
