December 13, 2023 Sharing Jesus
Our mission for 2017 is to share Jesus. We are asking God to
teach us how to share Him with those who are lost and those who have
lost their way. Today we have the privilege of hearing from someone
that God has called to share Jesus for their living! Josh Hallahan is
our missionary to Uganda (as well as the brother of our youth pastor!)
and he will give us an update on what God is doing there, and help us
think about how we can become more effective witnesses for Jesus. Then
we’ll take a look at the ways we’re going to try to share Jesus by
helping people in need – and you’ll have a chance to sign up for any and
all opportunities at the end of the service. This is a great launching
point for our mission this year, so make sure you are ready to be
challenged and to respond to God’s calling!

Have you ever wondered how many ‘judge’ shows are now on TV? Long ago,
“The People’s Court” made it popular to look in on the way a court
works. We heard the evidence from each side, and then came to an
opinion on which side should win. Others followed in Judge Wapner’s
steps, and now we have had dozens of shows where the entire program is
litigation. Maybe the reason this became so appealing is that people
like to judge. We are prone to jumping to conclusions on others,
whether we know the whole story or not. Jesus has instruction for those
who follow Him. He tells us, “Do not judge.” What does this mean and
how are we doing at embracing His words?

Because we trust and follow Jesus, we thought it would be a great
idea to take a walk through the gospel of Luke and dig into the words
of Jesus Himself. We’ll find them challenging and full of insight. And
with open hearts, we’ll allow the Spirit to instruct us on how we
should walk as Christians in this world.
Our loved ones are what gives our lives a sense of depth and
meaning. Those we are close to somehow transform what would otherwise
be a string of meaningless activities into dear memories and feelings.
It’s easy to see how normal it is to love those who love us. But Jesus
tells us to love our enemies. That almost looks like a misprint! How
can we do that? Why would we do that? And what does this mean in
practical terms for our lives?

We kick off a new year filled with possibilities and hope. What this
year becomes depends largely on what we do with the time we’re given.
What goals will we pursue? What will we value? How courageous will we
be? Of course, many things are beyond our control, and we have to
choose to walk by faith in those things. But how do the words of Jesus
affect how we look at life? We’re going to start our series by looking
at some of the more famous words He spoke that we call the Beatitudes.
What He says and what they mean may surprise you, and they will
definitely challenge us all. Hopefully, they give us clear vision about
this life and the next life so that we’ll use this year for what
matters!

This Christmas day we have the privilege of worshiping the Savior who
was born to rescue us. All of the lights, gifts, and celebration are
founded on the amazing gift that God gave to the world on Christmas
morning. We’re going to take an hour and read through the Biblical
story of Christmas as well as singing some carols and hearing some
music. Then, we’ll open together the best Christmas gift – one that is
offered to every single person – even you!

Have you ever noticed that Christmas includes a lot of gift giving?
That’s probably a dumb question, but it’s significant that this time of
year is connected with giving. Obviously, giving one another gifts –
often through personal sacrifice – is reflecting the gift God gave us in
His Son Jesus. So somewhere down deep inside we get it: the Christmas
story calls us to a mission. But that mission is not to find the
‘perfect’ gift and wrap it up and put it under the Christmas tree. Are
we spending more time in the trappings of Christmas than in the message
of it? Have we been more careful to make sure our house is decorated
and that our gifts are wrapped than in responding to the call of the
Christmas mission? Let’s take a look at that mission as it first
started on the night Jesus was born.

over and over again, yet somehow the impact never seems to stop. But
did you know that you have a part in this story? Even though it
happened so long ago, people are still getting included in the coming of
Jesus. What is your Christmas story? We pray it is a story of finding
Jesus. Today, let’s look at some men whose Christmas story was that
they found Jesus.
