Leviticus is an often overlooked portion of the Bible by many Christians. Yet, it contains beautiful pictures of the gospel. Chapters 9 and 10 disclose the specific manner by which God redeems man and makes clear that there is no other way to God.

Not everyone who celebrates Christmas has experienced Christmas. -Much of their joy and pleasure of the season has to do with what they have been told and not what they personally know. -Why Christmas Happened- explains three reasons for Christmas and the joy of experientially celebrating this season.

When God commits to allow the Israelites into the Promised Land he surprises the nation when he says that he will not go with them. The idea that God would not be present was disastrous news. Moses responds by saying that he would rather live in the wilderness with God than with wealth and comfort without God.

We tend to replace God with lesser gods who we think are more satisfying. Exodus 32 shows to us how serious God is about having no other god before him. This OT passage provides four preventatives to keep us from replacing God.

Though we understand the Holy Spirit best when we read the NT, the Holy Spirit is very active and present in the OT as well. In Exodus 31, the Spirit of God enables craftsman to build the tabernacle as he fills Bezalel and his team of workers just as the Spirit fills the Christian and enables us to serve in the church today.

The OT tabernacle and its furnishings point to Jesus Christ. It is a visual gospel of the Christ who was yet to come. For us today, it is a reminder of the faithfulness of God to provide the Savior promised in antiquity. The story of the Exodus is very similar to our own story.

Finding balance in our daily lives requires that we remind ourselves daily of particular truths that will allow us to live well before God in a spoiled world.

Our purpose in life is directly connected to who we become. What we set out to achieve will determine what path we walk in. Thus, the Psalmist asks God to deal bountifully with him and open his eyes to what God has already given to him in the Scriptures.

At the very heart of the tabernacle was the Ark of the Covenant. And at the heart of the Ark was the presence of God made manifest to his people through the mercy seat.

The OT requires very specific sacrifices at the tabernacle and later the temple. As people who live on this side of the cross we can better understand the purpose of the blood sacrifices. Isaiah 52-3 sheds light on the value of the sacrificial blood. This gospel soaked prophetic verse explains the need for the blood of Christ against the false promises the world offers.
