In their first battle against enemies in the wilderness, God proves his promise to take care of his own. With pleading arms raised to God, Moses' clenches his staff and God's people are victorious over the Amalakites. The staff which was a symbol of rescue and judgement is used by God to prove that he is a banner over his people.

In their first battle against enemies in the wilderness, the people of God find their strength not in their military ability, but in God. By use of a staff which symbolized God's presence, rescue and judgement, Moses' lifted hands bring victory to the Israelites against the Amalakites. God answers their question, -Is God with us or not--- God is indeed, our banner.

In Exodus 17, God once again tests the people of Israel and provides for them in the wilderness. Their great sin of ignoring God's provision, demanding more from God and thinking that they are the center of God's plan led the nation in the wilderness to wrong conclusions - they failed to see that God was with them.

In response to what God in rescuing the Israelites from the pursuing Egyptians, Moses wrote a song. Exodus 15 records what God did and Israel's faith in what God would soon do as a result. Singing to God is a powerful tool in the believer's life.
