What does authentic faith in Jesus Christ look like?

Continuing our study through 1 John on being an authentic Christian, we look more closely at love: Love for God, and love for each other.

What stirs up your love? Is it the things of this world which pass away, or is it Christ? And how has that affected your life?

Authentic believers have the assurance of the Gospel. We have the assurance that our sins have been forgiven. Our assurance is not baed on what we have or what we do, but in who Christ is.

An authentic Christian is going to have a love others, particularly brothers & sisters in Christ, i.e. the Church.

To be an authentic Christian we must acknowledge the sin in our own lives. Often we live as if we have no sin. We're good at putting on a facade and pretending we're basically okay. But we must be broken about our sin, confess our sin, and trust God to deal with our sin. To do otherwise is to be inauthentic. It makes God out to be a liar.

Jesus Christ is our "Kinsman Redeemer" who saves us and brings us into His family.

In the midst of bitter disappointment and difficult circumstances there is hope in Christ.
