Today, we have access to so much information. We are informed through electronic means, print media, radio broadcasts, and interviews, just to name a few.  Nowadays, WHO determines what is a good source of information? WHAT verfication process is used for information that is being disseminated? WHY do so many of us automatically entertain what we read or hear? From WHERE does this information come? WHEN do we decipher if this information is accurate or not? And ultimately, HOW will this information effect our lives? God's truth is based on fact – it is recorded and verifiable. The world's truth is based on a perspective that is governed by a different set of principles. Can we trust its source? Jesus said "Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32 (NIV). There are many faith traditions and practices around Ash Wednesday. And you may ask, “Why is it important?” Short answer, because it starts off the Holy Season of Lent with meaning, purpose and reflection. This year 2018, Ash Wednesday is February 14 and the Lenten Season lasts through March 31. The Season lasts 40 days (not counting Sundays), representing the 40 days Jesus spent in the wilderness before starting His ministry. Our focus during this Season should be a time of repentance, renewal, and motivation to reach a new level of experiencing God’s grace. Jesus said it well "Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15 (NKJV). Our lives should increase the desire of others to know Christ as Lord and Savior.  One way people can learn of Jesus is by our testimony and witness.  No, we've not seen Him with our naked eye, but if we're in relationship with Him, we have experienced His love, mercy, and grace.  Isaiah 43:12 says, "I have revealed and saved and proclaimed— I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “that I am God."  We are His witnesses when we live with focus and purpose or even if we flounder like a fish fresh out of water. Can you count the times throughout the day when you really feel hungry? I would say for me maybe two to three times per day my stomach feels empty, but of course it depends on what type of meal I ate last. Years ago in the name of being proactive, I used to eat before feeling hunger pangs. Now with maturity and being more conscientious about my overall health, I've learned to eat smaller portions and leave room for a small snack later. Have you ever felt really hungry for the Word of God and your hunger pangs are insatiable? Do we approach the Word of God as our daily bread or do we just snack every now and again? The Word should be equally important to us as the food we eat to nourish our physical bodies. Happy New Year!  The year 2018 is here and we cannot turn back the hands of time. This past year was full of surprises, joy, expectations, blessings and spiritual growth! And to be honest, the spiritual growth was painful, but worth it. My life took on a deeper meaning, resulting in a closer relationship with Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. My desire has grown to get to know Him more intimately.  In celebration of this past year 2017, the Scripture that comes to mind is "He gave them these orders: “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the Lord." II Chronicles 19.9 (NIV). This was a bountiful year of fearing the Lord and faithful service. Being used by God wholeheartedly brought on spiritual warfare like none other. What is my testimony? God is faithful in all things and His Word and promises are true! Seasons Greetings! The Christmas Season is upon us and it's time to celebrate Advent. Scripture says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son.” John 1:14 (NIV). Advent is the season during which time Christians of various denominations spiritually prepare to celebrate Christmas, the birth of Christ.  Advent usually takes place yearly from the fourth Sunday before Christmas through December 24.  For years families have made it a household tradition to participate in the Advent calendar used to count down the days before Christmas. Excitement fills the air because each day is celebrated with games, puzzles, activities and treats, in anticipation of the blessed event of Christ's birth. When we consider the attributes of God vs. the attributes of Satan immediately things are put into perspective. The devil is not a negative God! As children of the Most High, the Almighty, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, we must ask ourselves this question “What weapons formed against us shall prosper?” And Scripture has the answer “No weapons.” Our charge is to be girded with the full armor of God. Know that the works of the devil are sin, sickness, fear, death, depression, murder, temptation, deception, lust and rebellion, just to name a few. And I John 3:8 tells us “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” Thanks be to God, we have victory over the devil and his works in the name of Jesus and by His authority. As believers we must believe it, speak it, and receive it, because it is finished. Storytelling is an aged-old method to convey a short or long message. A fable, typically with animals as characters, is a short story imparting morality. A myth, most likely a traditional story, may answer life's overarching questions. Folklore/folktale, a collection of fictional tales, is generally about people or animals. A legend, purporting to be historical in nature, is a story but without substantiation. And lastly, a fairy tale mostly involving fairies, giants, dragons, elves, goblins, dwarves, and other fanciful and fantastic forces, is for children and the child-like imagination. In what category would you place the parables of the Bible, particularly those of Jesus Christ in New Testaments? Are they myth, folklore, legend, or fairy tale? The answer is "No". The parables of the Bible are allegorical truth not fiction and mysteries. The hidden spiritual meaning transcends the literal sense of the sacred biblical text. Everyday life presents new challenges. Arise and give thanks to God for blessing us with another day! God is the giver and sustainer of life, despite our personal challenge of “facing the giants”. Job said it best in chapter 12:10 "In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind." What should we do and where should we go when life presents hurt, despair, and disappointment that causes us to feel tired, hopeless, angry, anxious, fearful and without peace? Run to God is the answer --retreat to the Lord for such a time and let Him minister to you. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. We must press on and remain steadfast, unmovable, and faithful to the One who has called us to glorify Him. And one way we can glorify God is to find contentment in the situation Providence has placed us.
