Hope for Today

Our heavenly Father graciously and freely distributes spiritual gifts to each believer. He wants us to use our gifts for His glory, but oftentimes we don't. He not only expects us to use our gifts but also to know our spiritual gifts and to grow in them each day.

I Peter 4:10 (NIV) says "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms."  We are all a special and unique part of the body of Christ. God wants to use us!

Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe this year is almost over. I am excited for the new year, are you? Ready or not, here it comes. The question is are we prepared to move onward and upward in 2022? Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV) says, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year is our standard greeting during this time of year!  And when I say it, I mean it with all sincerity. I also want to acknowledge a few more holidays during December, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and Boxing Day. Each of these holidays have significant meaning to the people who celebrate them. The account of the birth of baby Jesus can sometimes get lost in the December shuffle and transition into the new year. I want to remind us of the true reason for the season, which is the Christ child. In Luke 2:10-11 (NIV), it says "But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord."  On December 25th, Christians are celebrating the advent of the Messiah, the first coming of Jesus the Christ. Life is a journey! While living life we will encounter happiness, sadness, fear, and anger, just to name a few emotions. But the reality is, humankind was created to feel and show emotions. The million dollar question is how do we respond to God when life’s circumstances directs us to the pathways of pain, disappointment, guilt, or shame? Our challenge is to stay on course and not detour. God wants us to seek and trust Him throughout our entire journey with all its ups and downs. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV) says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight" There is a reason for everything God allows us to face. Pain also provides us an opportunity to experience the grace of God. He will give us what we need to endure. God expects us to communicate with Him through prayer. There is power in prayer. God is always ready to help, provide, and get us through any situation we encounter. We can depend on Him! He has inclined His ears to hear us and to answer our prayers. God is always on time, and according to His will, answers prayer. The outcome will glorify Him.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NKJV) says, "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."  No matter the circumstances, be encouraged to keep trusting in our Heavenly Father. His love, mercy, and grace, allow His blessings to flow abundantly.

It is important to study the Holy Scriptures! Why? Because when we study and know Holy Scriptures, we can stand on the promises of God and not waver in our journey. Jesus walks and talks with us. When we guard Scriptures in our heart, along with the indwelling of the the Holy Spirit, we have an internal GPS! II Timothy 2:15 says,"Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." The Holy Bible is the sacred Word of God. It shows His characater and accounts for God's revelation of himself to His people. God caused the Bible to be written for the express purpose of revealing to us His plan for redemption. In each section of the Bible, we see God's holy, unchanging, faithful, gracious and loving character. II Timothy 3:16-17 says, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." Christians may be surprised to learn that the doctrine of justification by faith is not only found in the New Testament but also the Old Testament. Genesis 15:6, says, "Abraham, in response to God’s promise, believed the LORD, and it was counted to him as righteous."  In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul wrote about justification by faith by contrasting justification by faith with justification by works of the law.  We are not justified by our works.  And, the blessing is, being "justified" means we are no longer enemies of God! 

Romans 5:1 says, "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (NKJV)

The Christian belief system is rooted in justification by faith. When sinners recognize and acknowledge their need for a Savior, they are making their way toward God. Accepting the Son of God, Christ Jesus, as Savior is mankind being saved by grace through faith. Our justification is by faith alone and apart from good deeds.
