  • New Beginnings: A Hope and a Future
January 1, 2021, kicks off the new year! HAPPY NEW YEAR, to you all. Yes, the time has come to wrap up the old and usher in the new. What's in store exactly? I don't know. But, I will give thanks to God for a new beginning, a fresh start, and second chances. The year 2020 will go down in US history as a time of civil, social, and political unrest; a period when hundreds of thousands of people lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic public health crisis; and two-quarters of the US economy crashing. Through it all, many lost hope and the possibility of what a bright future may hold.

Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NIV) says, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you." No matter what the circumstances, hold fast to God's promises and plans for our lives. He listens and responds to our prayers of adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.

Join us Tuesday, December 29, at 3:30 PM, PST, as we talk with special guests who will share how they will approach the new year with a new-found intent to serve our risen Savior.

  • Peace on Earth and Goodwill Toward Men
During the holiday season, I love to open Christmas cards and read words of encouragement that are rooted in the Word of God. Some of these words that truly reflect the reason for Christmas are joy, peace, love, happiness, family, and good tidings. Nowadays, most Christmas cards just say "Happy Holidays"!  Sadly enough, we're lucky if we even see the word Christmas anymore.   Jesus is the reason for the season! This passage sums it up God's love, joy, and peace. Isaiah 9:6 (NIV) "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."    Join us Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PST.  We'll reflect on the true meaning of the Christmas holiday, God's gift of salvation. • A Prayer of Thanksgiving
We just celebrated Thanksgiving Day, which for many had a very different look and feel. Because of COVID-19, it was recommended that families in separate households not fellowship together. It was strongly suggested that if traveling plans were being made, to do so by automobile. Most people exercised wisdom and sheltered-in, while trying to make the best of a grim situation. I know of many people who reluctantly spent Thanksgiving Day alone. I Thessalonians 5:18 says, "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." (NIV). No matter what the circumstances, we are to give thanks. Why?  Because God provides, He protects, He delivers, He heals, and He is the giver of salvation. He sent His only begotten son, Jesus the Christ, to die for the sins of the world.   Join us Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PST, as we give thanks to our heavenly Father. Call in to speak with the host (646) 668-2946 Hope4Today is an outreach program of Yield to the King Ministry. • The Soul of Our Nation and Redemption
John Lewis, a well-known civil rights leader, wrote an essay before his death on July 17, 2020. His essay was read at his funeral. Mr. Lewis’ bidding for all America is heard through these words,"Together, you can redeem the soul of our nation. Though I am gone, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe." When I hear these two words "soul" and "redeem", they have a spiritual connotation. Soul is our breathing conscious body. Redemption speaks to the person and work of Jesus Christ, who died on the cross to pay the price for our sins. Psalm 107:1-2 says, "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…" (NIV) Join us Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PST, as we discus, from a biblical perspective, the soul of America and how our nation can be redeemed. • Real Talk: What's Going On? Part II
Imagine a paneramic view of America. Here's what you mostly likely will see: people who are homeless; people standing in foodbank lines; people protesting police killings; police standoffs; people dying of COVID-19; people wearing masks; and businesses, schools and church buildings closed. Not a pretty sight, right? And, as if that's not enough, poltics have fueled a partisan divide in our nation like never before. Many have placed their hope in the upcoming presidential election and a very much needed cure-all vacine for COVID-19. What will it take to heal our nation? II Chronicles 7:14 says, "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (NIV) Join us Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PDT, for some real talk. We will continue our conversation with Pastor Lonnie Arnold. This man of God will enlighten us from a biblical perspective. Prayerfully, we can hear and learn from each other. • Real Talk: What's Going On?
Today's information, whether it be via print/social media or news broadcasts, is dismal at best. Yet, most of us are compelled to keep up in order to remain current. One day you may hear something and within the hour it has changed. Realistically, how much information can we really take in, retain, and apply?  And at the end of the day, how is it all affecting you, me, and our circle of family and friends? Psalm 24:1-2 says, "The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it on the seas and established it on the waters." (NIV)  God who is the Great I AM, the All-knowing One, can keep up with it all. I certainly cannot! Join us Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PDT, for some real talk. We will engage in conversation with ordained clergy who may have differing approaches, opinions and perspectives on the affairs of today. Prayerfully, we can hear and learn from each other.  Call in to speak with the host (646) 668-2946 Hope4Today is an outreach program of Yield to the King Ministry. • Knowing Our Identity in Christ - Part III
Usually, identity is the way we perceive ourselves. It shapes our beliefs and those core beliefs, in turn, drive what we think, say, and do. How do we describe ourselves, by our attributes, heritage, possessions, backgrounds, and aspirations? Over time, our description becomes our earthly identity. The active pursuit of finding, knowing, and growing in our spiritual identity is paramount. As believers and followers of Christ, we walk in the newness of life, a new creation; hence the term born again.

John 3:3 says, "Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again." (NIV)  Being in Christ Jesus is our spiritual identity. And, our identity in Him is the greatest treasure on earth.

Join us Tuesday, August 25, 2020, at 3:30 PM, PDT, as we review, over a three-part series, the operational, relational, and practical aspects of knowing our identity in Jesus Christ.

  • Homeschooling: My Family's 19-Year Journey
A native of Seattle, Vida Oliphant Sneed is the youngest of the five girls born to parents Clarence A. Oliphant and La Verna D. Jones Oliphant, both originally from Iowa. While growing up, Vida discovered these two truths: we all are created with a particular “bent” and our life’s assignment is to learn how to submit that “bent” to the Master’s hand.  Based on Deuteronomy 6:5-9, Vida did submit and began her life-rewarding homeschool journey. Vida graduated from high school at age 16 and attended the University of Washington for two years before transferring to University of Southern California where she graduated with a BA in English. She returned to Seattle to marry the love of her life, Steve Sneed and God blessed them with six children. Vida received her Elementary Education Teaching Certificate and taught in the Seattle Public Schools for a very short time. The Lord redirected her course to homeschooling her then three children. This was a life-changing, will-bending journey of faith that culminated in 19 years of homeschooling all six children while providing care for other children the Lord sent along the way. Vida says, “For 19 years I quit every morning telling the Lord I can’t do this. It’s too hard for me. And He responded, ‘You’re right you can’t. Let me do it through you.’ And He did.” Vida and Steve have five grandchildren and one one the way. In their spare time, they spend quality time with family, travel, and are very active in their church and community. She currently serves as Co-Assistant Superintendent of the Christian Education Ministry at First A.M.E. Church in Seattle, Washington.
