Paul contrasted law and grace back in chapter 5. In chapter 6 he taught us all about grace in the Christian life. Now, in chapter 7 he teaches us all about the law’s place (or lack of place), in the christian life.

He teaches that we are dead to the law and now belong to Jesus. We now serve in the new way of the Spirit. This changes everything!

Paul says that sin will not dominate those who are under the grace of Christ. He also says that we should not go on sinning because we are now under God’s grace. Grace is not a license or excuse to sin.

The forgiveness of sin flows from God’s grace, but God’s grace is so much more than just forgiveness. It is power. God’s grace is power to overcome. Power to conquer. Power to say “No!” to sin and to live a life that pleases God.

Last week we learned that we are united to Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. This is the indicative, or what God has already done. This week we cover our part, or our responsibility in the fight against sin.

In this message Pastor Kyle Truman preaches about your responsibility in overcoming all types of sin as you walk with Christ. How we think and what we do before temptation comes makes all the difference in our victory over it. Christians are dead to sin and sin is to have no dominion over us. This doesn’t mean that we can achieve a state of sinless perfection in this life but it does mean that we can have far greater victory over sin that what most of us realize.
