Paul just preached an exciting sermon, so exciting that many pursued him during the week and almost the whole city showed up at the synagogue to hear him preach again the following week.

In this passage Saul and Barnabas journey to Cyprus where they face an evil sorcerer that opposes them and their message. Paul, full of the Holy Spirit, looked straight at the sorcerer and spoke to him of the judgment of God that was about to fall upon him.

There are many lessons for us in our ministry today. The Christian life and ministry is warfare and we do not have to be afraid of our enemy but are to move forward proclaiming the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The citizens of Tyre and Sidon began to worship King Herod and the King received it. The citizens where guilty of idolatry and Herod wrongly received worship as if he were God. God’s judgment fell on the King and he was eaten by worms.

In this message we learn more about tyranny and how to respond to a tyrant. We are also challenged to search our hearts and minds to examine ourselves and repent of more subtle, more common forms of idolatry.
