Spiritual Journey:

1. Seek the Lord about what sacrifice looks like for you and your family. (over and above our tithes and offerings)

2. Listen to what God speaks

3. Obey what God has said.

Luke 5:17

On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal.

The religious (those who looked like they had it all together) want to be near Jesus because it looks good, but that don’t want to live under His Lordship.

Luke 5:18-19

And behold, some men were bringing on a bed a man who was paralyzed, and they were seeking to bring him in and lay him before Jesus, but finding no way to bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and let him down with his bed through the tiles into the midst before Jesus.

The crowds back was turned away from the one who needed a touch.

Faith doesn’t accept the first NO

Luke 5:20-26

And when he saw their faith, he said, "Man, your sins are forgiven you." And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?" When Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answered them, "Why do you question in your hearts? Which is easier, to say, 'Your sins are forgiven you,' or to say, 'Rise and walk'? But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" —he said to the man who was paralyzed— "I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home." And immediately he rose up before them and picked up what he had been lying on and went home, glorifying God. And amazement seized them all, and they glorified God and were filled with awe, saying, "We have seen extraordinary things today."

Our heart should be to help someone else receive their miracle.

Big Idea:

Faith is the currency of heaven.

Surrender starts with the realization that everything we have isn’t actually ours at all.

The idea of sacrifice is giving up something we love; so we can sacrifice for something we love more.

Big Idea:

You can give without sacrifice, but you can’t sacrifice without giving.

1 Chronicles 28:2

Then King David rose to his feet and said: "Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building.

Head Knowledge and Heart Knowledge aren’t the same thing.

Romans 10:9

because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Isaiah 43:19

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

Do you recognize what God is doing? (in your heart)

With every opportunity there is a responsibility.

Jesus vision for the church is always bigger than our vision.

A step of faith is always a step in the right direction.

We will experience God through the journey as He gets a hold of our hearts and we get a hold of His.

Big Idea:

When our hearts are connected to God’s vision it becomes the overflow of our lives.

Big Idea:

As we humbly walk through this spiritual journey God will receive glory, you will be blessed and others will come into the kingdom of God.

Colossians 3:18-19

Wives, understand and support your husbands by submitting to them in ways that honor the Master. Husbands, go all out in love for your wives. Don’t take advantage of them.

Unrealistic Expectation:

Getting married will make me happy.

The reality:

Marriage is not an antidote for unhappiness.

Unrealistic Expectation:

He’ll be different after we’re married.

The reality:

What you see is what you get.

Unrealistic Expectation:

We are Christians, our marriage is safe.

The reality:

Every marriage must be nurtured and protected.

Unrealistic Expectation:

He should understand without me telling him.

The reality:

Understanding requires communication.

Unrealistic Expectation:

If we tithe we won’t have money problems.

The reality:

You still have to establish a budget and live within your means.

Isaiah 6:1-6

Ezekiel 47:7-8

And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything. "But when he came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants."' And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate. "Now his older son was in the field, and as he came and drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants and asked what these things meant. And he said to him, 'Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has received him back safe and sound.' But he was angry and refused to go in. His father came out and entreated him, but he answered his father, 'Look, these many years I have served you, and I never disobeyed your command, yet you never gave me a young goat, that I might celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours came, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!' And he said to him, 'Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. It was fitting to celebrate and be glad, for this your brother was dead, and is alive; he was lost, and is found.'"

Your story is exactly where you’ll connect with other people.

When you surrender your story, you’ll share your story.

The places you want to hide in your story are the places that hold the most impact.

If the enemy shames your story, he’ll steal God’s glory.

Romans 10:11

For the Scripture says, "Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame."

The Big Idea this morning is a Big Question: Are you allowing God to use your story for His glory?
