Today's scripture comes from 2 Corinthians 8 where Paul wrote about the generous giving by the church at Macedonia. When we think about life in the first century, we realize those gifts from the Macedonians took many months to reach the famine victims in Jerusalem, and the church at Macedonia likely never knew how their sacrificial giving helped others. In our day, we like to see results from what we do. Instead, God calls us to demonstrate grace in how we give of ourselves, showing faith that God's plans and timeframes for using what we give are best.

Paul's letters to the church at Corinth addressed many varied areas of dispute and division within that community of faith. In this week's passage, the dispute had to do with head coverings, but Paul cut through to the heart of the matter in describing a healthy relationship between a husband and a wife. Paul gives us timeless instructions on how our marriages are to reflect the nature of God, giving of ourselves to uplift each other.

Also in today's service, we have an interview with Tiffany Mankaheriharison, our missionary to Madagascar. She shares about her calling into missionary work and how God is working through that ministry.

In today's scripture passage, Paul continued to instruct the believers in Corinth not to be distracted in living out their faith, but to focus on what truly mattered. Where the Corinth believers argued about proper behavior, Paul patiently taught them to put aside what was less important and focus on the One Thing: living out God's love in everything we do.

In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul urged believers not only to start their faith journey, but to diligently continue their faith journey and finish our journeys well. He provided several examples of how God's people stumbled in their faith from the stories of Abraham's descendants following Moses in the wilderness. Pastor Chris grouped these teachings into three principles we should apply: guard our hearts, guard our bodies, and guard our tongues.
