Back in April we had the pleasure of interviewing Patrick Ouziel, the Cinematographer for Never After Dark, one of our favorite films we saw at the Overlook film festival . On the same day of interview the films team got the exciting news that it had been picked up for distribution by Magnolia Pictures, which put our episode on hold. Now that the film is being released to the public our episode is available for your listening pleasure.
We hope you go check out Never After Dark when it hits theaters near you!

With Zach Cregger's Resident Evil coming out this month we are back covering his debut, Barbarian, which was one of our earliest episodes.
When Tess arrives at her rental house late at night, she discovers that a strange man named Keith is already staying there. Despite the obvious red flags—and several reasons to simply get in the car and leave—Tess decides to stay. Big mistake. What begins as an awkward encounter between two strangers quickly turns into something far more disturbing, as the house reveals secrets that neither of them could have imagined.
We’re talking about Barbarian’s genuinely effective scares, its unpredictable structure, memorable performances, dark humor, and the way Cregger keeps pulling the rug out from underneath the audience. We’ll also get into whether all those twists ultimately come together or if the movie’s second half loses some of the tension that makes its opening so damn effective.
So lock the doors, check the basement, and whatever you do, don’t book the Airbnb.

The Resident Evil franchise gets a bloody new beginning as Barbarian and Weapons director Zach Cregger takes on Capcom’s survival-horror icon. This time, there’s no Alice, no Leon Kennedy, and no attempt to recreate the previous movies. Instead, we follow Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier whose routine delivery turns into a fight for survival when he finds himself caught in a horrifying outbreak in Raccoon City.
Cregger brings his own twisted sense of humor to the franchise, mixing claustrophobic horror, grotesque creatures, gore, action, and some very video-game-inspired sequences into a lean 90-minute nightmare. The result is a Resident Evil that feels less like a traditional adaptation of one specific game and more like being dropped directly into a survival-horror game with limited supplies, increasingly dangerous obstacles, and absolutely no idea what’s waiting around the next corner.
We’re talking about what Cregger brings to the franchise, whether the comedy works alongside the scares, the movie’s wild creature designs, and how it compares to the previous Resident Evil movies. Is this the fresh start the series needed, or are we just going back to Raccoon City because nobody learned their lesson the first time?

This week we dive into Hope (2026), the long-awaited return from Na Hong-jin, director of The Wailing. Set in the isolated village of Hope Harbor near the DMZ, the film begins with reports of a mysterious beast before spiraling into something far stranger, bigger, and more terrifying.
We discuss the film's ambitious blend of creature-feature horror, science fiction, action, dark comedy, and cosmic dread, as well as its massive international cast, including Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, Hoyeon, Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Taylor Russell.
With a nearly three-hour runtime and an absolutely enormous scope, Hope takes some big swings. We'll talk about the film's wild genre shifts, creature chaos, stunning visuals, and whether all of that ambition pays off—or if the movie occasionally gets lost in its own scale. It may not be as tightly constructed as The Wailing, but there's no denying that Na Hong-jin has created one of the year's most unusual and ambitious genre films.

Nearly 30 years after Practical Magic became a cult favorite, the Owens witches are back—and this time, the family curse is ready for another generation.
Practical Magic 2 reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman as sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, with Sally’s daughters Kylie and Antonia now caught up in the family’s complicated magical legacy. When Kylie’s new romance puts her in the path of the curse, she heads to England searching for a way to save the man she loves, forcing Sally and Gillian to follow her and confront the secrets buried in their family history.
With its mix of witchcraft, romance, comedy, spooky-season vibes, and plenty of nostalgia, the sequel clearly wants to recreate the magic of the original. But does bringing back the Owens women actually recapture the charm—or does this feel like another case of Hollywood trying to resurrect a cult classic that was better left alone? We’re talking Practical Magic 2: the midnight margaritas are back, the witches are back, and apparently so is the curse.

In honor of Hope releasing this week, we are descending into the nightmare of The Wailing (2016), Na Hong-jin’s sprawling South Korean horror mystery about a quiet village consumed by unexplained violence, illness, and paranoia. When a police officer begins investigating a series of disturbing events, his search for answers becomes increasingly desperate—especially when his own family is caught in the middle.
We discuss the film’s masterful blend of folk horror, supernatural terror, mystery, and dark comedy, as well as its unforgettable atmosphere and increasingly unsettling sense that no one can be trusted. With its twists, religious imagery, folklore, and deliberately ambiguous storytelling, The Wailing is a film that practically demands a conversation after the credits roll.
Is it a supernatural mystery? A story about faith and paranoia? Or one of the most effective horror films of the 21st century? Join us as we unpack the scares, the performances, and the many questions left lingering in the air.

What if your favorite wholesome ’90s kids’ show wasn’t wholesome at all? Casper Kelly, the twisted mind behind Too Many Cooks, takes the bright colors, catchy songs, oversized costumes, and aggressively positive lessons of children’s television and turns them into a bloody horror-comedy nightmare.
At the center of it all is Buddy, a cheerful orange unicorn voiced by Keegan-Michael Key who seems determined to teach kids some very important lessons… whether they want to learn them or not.

This week we hit the road with It Ends, an existential horror film that turns a simple late-night drive into a nightmare with no exit. Directed by Alexander Ullom, the film follows a group of recent graduates whose final night together takes a terrifying turn when they find themselves trapped on an endless stretch of road surrounded by horrors they can't fully understand.
We talk about the film's unsettling atmosphere, its claustrophobic use of a seemingly endless highway, and how it uses horror to explore uncertainty, growing up, and the fear of not knowing where your life is going. With a strong ensemble and a deliberately mysterious approach, It Ends transforms an existential crisis into something genuinely nightmarish.
Join us as we unpack the scares, the strange journey, and whether It Ends successfully sticks the landing—or whether some roads really should have an exit.
We are joined by Bryan of Talking Horror.

This week we head back to summer camp for Jane Schoenbrun’s Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, a bloody, bizarre, and deeply personal spin on the slasher genre. Starring Hannah Einbinder and Gillian Anderson, the film follows a young filmmaker attempting to revive a beloved '80s slasher franchise who becomes obsessed with the actress who played its original Final Girl.
We talk about the film's wild combination of slasher horror, dark comedy, sexuality, nostalgia, and psychological horror, along with Schoenbrun's fascination with the way horror movies can shape our identities and relationship with fear. The movie takes the familiar Final Girl mythology and turns it into something much stranger, more intimate, and surprisingly emotional.
We also get into the performances, the deliberately surreal style, the gruesome moments, and whether Camp Miasma succeeds as both a love letter to—and a subversion of—the slasher genre.

This week we head to the suburbs—or at least what’s left of them—to talk about The End of Oak Street (2026), the new sci-fi survival thriller from It Follows director David Robert Mitchell. Starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, the film follows the Platt family after a mysterious cosmic event rips their entire neighborhood out of suburbia and drops it somewhere very, very unexpected.
We talk about the movie’s wild combination of 1980s nostalgia, family drama, dinosaurs, sci-fi mystery, and survival horror, as well as Mitchell’s playful nods to classic Spielberg-era adventure movies. With its strange premise and surprisingly heartfelt story, The End of Oak Street is a pretty big departure from the director’s earlier horror work—but it still carries some of that eerie, mysterious DNA.
We also get into the film’s visual effects, performances, action sequences, and whether the ambitious premise sticks the landing. Is this the next great suburban creature feature, or does the mystery get a little lost along the way?
