Happy October, Pod People! To kick off the season right, we have an interview with Emily Ruth Verona about her novella, Shiva, which is a twisty, psychological, speculative tale that delivers an emotional gut punch - perfect for spooky season reading! In this episode, we discuss complicated sibling dynamics, the destructive ways we deal with grief, Jewish generational trauma, body horror, and an ending that made us gasp. After talking about the book, our conversion devolved (or perhaps evolved) into us all giving each other recommendations based on what we've been reading and watching, and it's brilliant.

Pod People, sit, stay, and listen if you love dogs! In this episode, we discuss the 2025 film Good Boy, a haunted house story told through the perspective of Indy, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. We're joined by dog lover and rescuer Erica Loring (mom to Super Scooty!) to discuss famous dogs in film, the incredible performance that earned Indy a best actor award, the patience filmmaker Ben Leonberg had to have to make this film a few minutes at a time (because dog!), and the moments that genuinely scared us.
Also, you should absolutely follow @super_scooty on socials. You don't want to miss out on this sweet little muffin!

Pod People, ever met a demon twink? Ever made a deal with one? On this episode, we discuss the short film Demon Twink, directed by Steven George and available to watch for free online: https://www.demontwinkfilm.com/
Demon Twink explores themes of otherness, connection, and the lengths we'll go to find love, and we absolutely loved this film! (There's also some really incredible merch for sale and opportunities to help the team turn this short into a feature film - you know what to do, fam!)
We also throw it back to Leviticus, one of our favorite films from the Sundance Film Festival, now that the film has had its theatrical release. We discuss our favorite scenes and why we think it's such an exciting and important film for contemporary horror audiences.
Finally, we touch on all the incredible indie horror that's been dominating the box office and what it means for the future of the genre on film. It's a great time to be a horror fan!

In this episode, we speak with Claire Fuller, the award-winning author of Hunger and Thirst, a novel that explores girlhood and belonging and desire and the things that haunt us. We discuss the intersection of sculpture and storytelling, cursed homesteads, the complexity of female friendships, and how disgusting and unsettling flies are, both in the book and in real life.

Calling all Y2K babes - this interview is for you! In this episode, we talk to Wendy Dalrymple, a purveyor of Florida Gothic and #PinkHorror, about her latest book, Bed Rot Baby in which our sugar baby protagonist begins to rot...like, literally. We chat about unlikeable girls, body horror, he power of roll-on body glitter to unite us all, energy vampires, the trouble with preserving one's image, female friendships, how the instinct to survive can make us all do very bad things, and the seductive desire to simply rot in bed with trash TV and copious snacks.

Pod People, have you missed us? We took a much-needed break during January and February 2026, but we are back, baby, with a very special episode about our adventures at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival! Yes, we traipsed to the mountains of Park City, Utah, to catch incredible film premieres and do a little celeb sighting. And boy do we have stories!
Listen to us talk about the blessing that was Sergio, Nikki using game theory and the power of the interwebs to score us tickets that we definitely didn't get prior to arriving in Utah, and our spoiler-free thoughts on the films we were lucky enough to see:

Pod People, it's a new year! The horrors persist, but so do we. We hope 2026 is off to a great start for you, and if it isn't, perhaps a new episode will help to soothe the soul?
In this episode, we discuss Vic Effects, an indie psychological horror film that's currently making the rounds at film festivals! We were lucky enough to receive a screener from writer and director Chris Shern, and friend-of-the-pod Katelin Stack plays The Woman in it. Since this film isn't widely distributed yet, no big spoilers, but we still have a hearty conversation about foley artistry, that trippy moment when art and reality blur, DIY horror, meta storytelling, and obsession.
We also talk about some of the films that are premiering at Sundance Film Festival, which we'll be attending later this month. And you better believe you'll get a full report of that trip on a future episode.
PS - This episode was recorded prior to the new year, so there are discussions of the holidays and December, and why does it already feel like it's been three months since then?

In this episode, we talk to Nebula, Ignyte, Hugo, Locus, and Shirley Jackson Award-nominated writer of speculative short fiction Thomas Ha about his debut short story collection, Uncertain Sons and Other Stories. We discuss immersive storytelling and grounding tales in reality even when navigating apocalyptic and fantastical worlds, a whole lotta writing craft, the conundrum of running or fighting in the face of grave danger, interconnected stories in the Thomas Ha-iverse, how science fiction has an uncanny able to predict our future, and much more.

Pod People, it's been an exceptional year for the horror genre, so we decided to pause so we could take stock of some of the media we've enjoyed thus far. We talk the films Weapons, Sinners, Final Destination: Bloodlines, and more, as well as some books we've loved, including Old Soul by Susan Barker, Natural Beauty by Ling Ling Huang, Diavola by Jennifer Thorne, and The Skin You're In by Ashley Robin Franklin, and more.
Obviously, this is nowhere near an exhaustive list, and after we recorded this episode, a whole wave of films hit theaters for October, so there is much to celebrate. Horror is alive and well!
We want to hear from you! What horror media have you really enjoyed this year? Share it with us, and we just might shout you out on a future episode!

Pod People, your intrepid hosts both turned 40 this year, and we decided that called for celebration! How are we celebrating on the pod? We each picked one of our all-time favorite horror films to revisit and discuss in depth. First, we discussed Nikki's pick, Alien, and now it's time to go low, low, low, low, low, low, low with Tiffany's pick, Neil Marshall's The Descent (2005). Join us as we discuss why this movie (and Final Destination) made us afraid of following cars hauling damn near anything, the terror of betrayal (especially within female friend groups), cave spelunking gone wrong, the incredible set design that brought these caves to life, lakes of blood...or something like that, and the original ending that was just too bleak to show in theaters in the U.S.
