Horror Show Hot Dog

Movies discussed: Phantom of the Paradise, The Devil’s Candy, Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare, Skeletons (short) It’s a weird rock and roll horror week here at HSHD. Phantom of the Paradise and Rock ‘n Roll Nightmare both baffle and charm us, while The Devil’s Candy fails to impress one of the three of us. On an unrelated note, Josh and Charlie think Matt is dumb and doesn’t know what’s good. Next weeks assignments: Kid Oriented Horror theme! The Lady in White (1988) Ernest Scared Stupid Mr. Boogedy Not So Fast! (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

Movies discussed: The Midnight Hour, Versus, Doghouse, Storage (short) It’s a zombie jamboree this week! We’re gently charmed by the Thriller-meets-bad-Stephen-King The Midnight Hour. The bad-lad misogynistic “comedy” of Doghouse leaves most of us feeling deeply unclean. And Versus is a gonzo good time, provided you don’t watch the awful dubbed version on Amazon. Next weeks assignments: Rock ‘n’ Roll theme! Phantom of the Paradise The Devil’s Candy Rock ‘n’ Roll Nightmare Skeletons (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

Movies discussed: Get Out, The Girl with All the Gifts, Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens, The Drawing (short) It’s all new, mostly great movies this week! The Girl with All the Gifts gets record high scores, as does Get Out. Sharknado 4… well, returns have diminished substantially on that there franchise. Next weeks assignments: Zombies theme! The Midnight Hour Versus Doghouse Storage (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

It’s a very special HSHD this week. By which we mean we don’t review any new movies and there’s no Charlie. So basically it’s missing everything you love about the show. But! We did get Matt, Megan and Josh together to chat about Christmas movies, the year in horror, and wherever else our weird brains took us. There are digressions. There are polite disagreements. There is pizza. Enjoy this bit of fun and let it whet your appetite for next week’s show!

Movies discussed: The Shallows, Belladonna of Sadness, Tourist Trap, Don’t Look (short) Boy howdy do we have an eclectic group of movies this week with the artful Belladonna of Sadness, the 70’s-tastic Tourist Trap, and the divisive The Shallows. Next weeks assignments: Blade series Blade Blade II Blade: Trinity Ghost Fight (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

(You may remember we covered Phantasm II a long time ago as part of a sequel week) It’s a mixed bag, to put it gently. Next weeks assignments: The Shallows Belladonna of Sadness Tourist Trap Don’t Look (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

Movies discussed: XX, Don’t Look Back (2009), Mirror Mirror, Vanilla Cake (short) We celebrate Women in Horror Month this week with three female-directed films. Folks, there are a ton of great horror movies directed by women: The Invitation, Honeymoon, Babadook, Pet Sematary, to name a few. Unfortunately, this set of XX, Don’t Look Back, and Mirror/Mirror is only okay. Not great, not terrible — but we’re loopy enough to still get a fun show out of it. Next weeks assignments: Get Out The Girl with All the Gifts Sharknado 4: The Fourth Awakens The Drawing (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week!

Movies discussed: Blair Witch (2016 remake), Similars, The Prowler, There Shall Come Angels (short) The new Blair Witch provides ample conversation this week, while The Prowler proves to be a classy slasher and The Similars gives us a bit of that old fashioned Twilight Zone feeling. Next weeks assignments: vampires! Kiss of the Damned Thirst (2009) My Sucky Teen Romance Prete Noir (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.

Movies discussed: Sadako vs Kayako, Siren, Satan’s Cheerleaders, Wide Awake (short) Some of us answer Siren’s song this week, though none of Satan’s Cheerleaders support had anything to do with it. Then we watched Sadako vs. Kayako. Make of that what you will. Next weeks assignments: Blair Witch (2016 remake) The Similars The Prowler There Shall Come Angels (short) Watch along with us if you like and we’ll see you next week.
