  • Double Initial Murders: The Suspects Who Haunted Rochester | Part 2

In Part 2 of our investigation into Rochester’s Double Initial Murders, we turn from the victims to the men who have been suspected of killing Carmen Colón, Wanda Walkowicz and Michelle Maenza.

Some suspects were close to the victims. Others were already violent offenders. And one would later become infamous as part of the Hillside Stranglers.

We examine James Barber, Rochester’s so-called “Garage Rapist” Dennis Termini, Kenneth Bianchi, and convicted serial killer Joseph Naso—including the evidence that made each man a compelling suspect and the problems that kept investigators from closing the case.

One suspect was even exhumed decades after his death so investigators could compare his DNA to biological evidence recovered from Wanda Walkowicz. The result? No match. Another had striking similarities to the crimes but no physical evidence connecting him to the Rochester murders.

More than 50 years later, the murders remain officially unsolved, and the three cases have never been conclusively proven to be the work of a single killer. But preserved evidence from Wanda’s case could still offer one path forward: genetic genealogy.

So who killed Carmen, Wanda and Michelle? Was one of these suspects responsible—or has the real killer never been publicly identified?

  • Minute Files: 104 MPH at Dead Man’s Curve: Can Speeding Be Murder? | Pepperdine Crash

Four Pepperdine seniors and Alpha Phi sorority sisters—Niamh Rolston, Peyon Stewart, Asha Weir, and Deslyn Williams—were killed while standing along Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

Prosecutors allege that Fraser Bohm was driving 104 mph in a 45 mph zone when he lost control of his BMW near a stretch known as “Dead Man’s Curve.” With no alleged alcohol, drugs, or texting involved, the case raises a major legal question: Can extreme speeding alone support murder charges?

Heather explains California’s “implied malice” murder theory, why a judge allowed four murder counts to move forward, and how this case could change the way reckless-driving deaths are prosecuted.

Bohm is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.

  • Double Initial Murders: Three Girls, Three Initials, One Unsolved Mystery | Part 1

Between 1971 and 1973, three young girls disappeared in broad daylight from Rochester, New York.

Carmen Colón. Wanda Walkowicz. Michelle Maenza.

Their first and last initials matched—CC, WW and MM. Even more chilling, their bodies were discovered in locations beginning with those same letters: Churchville, Webster and Macedon.

In Part 1 of our investigation into the Rochester Double Initial Murders, we look back at the city before the killings, reconstruct the disappearances of all three girls and examine the unsettling similarities—and important differences—between their cases.

We also explore the investigation’s first major suspect: Carmen’s uncle, Miguel Colón. Was Rochester being terrorized by a single serial killer, or have three separate tragedies become connected by one of the strangest coincidences in criminal history?

More than 50 years later, the murders remain unsolved.

  • Minute Files: The Tragic Story Behind the Central Park Five's $41 Million Settlement

The Central Park Five were wrongfully convicted as teenagers and collectively spent years behind bars for a crime they didn't commit. After Matias Reyes confessed to being the actual attacker and DNA confirmed this confession, their convictions were vacated, and New York City ultimately agreed to a $41 million settlement.

    But here's the question:

Would YOU willingly spend 13 years in prison if you knew you'd receive $41 million afterward?

It's an impossible choice that raises questions about freedom, justice, trauma, and whether any amount of money can ever replace the years that were taken.

Let us know your answer in the comments.

In 2004, 8-year-old Savannah Streber was killed after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into her family’s Rochester, New York home.

Years later, Timothy Kuhn was charged in connection with Savannah’s murder—but the case unraveled amid serious questions about how evidence was documented, preserved, and handled by the prosecution.
